I have NO explanation for "Airhead Love"....it just happens. Unlike most on this site I have only owned ONE airhead....my 74 R90/6 that I bought back in 1986 for $1100. I'm still riding it and still loving it. I can't even imagine ever being without it!

I'm not interested in having the fastest bike, or the lightest bike, or the prettiest bike, or the one with the most suspension travel.

My eyes have wandered over the years, and I've owed some of those bikes above but when the honeymoon ended (and it always has so far) I always bought another airhead. That's over about 20 years now, and of the 50+ bikes I have owned the only ones I miss a little bit are the airheads.... OK, maybe I never should have sold that Ducati F1 but I don't really want it back now :lol3

I don't think there is a way to justify airhead ownership that someone can't put up a decent argument against....

For me, the airhead community, parts support and DIY ethos are part of the equation that keeps me coming back.

My airheads give me the illusion I can work on them. And they let me converse with guys like you.

    Cordless +1.

Lornce, that black /5 is beautiful... my /6 has the same paint and wheels. Lesters on a /5 are so wrong they're right.

I had a series of about five bikes over a dozen years, including a /7, then took a few years off for job, family, etc. The only bike I could imagine getting back to was an airhead.

    If I was a motorcycle, I'd be a /6.

Epiphany. Thirty-seven years and a gamillion rear wheel removals and I've never realized that. Wow.

My first airhead experience was when I was waiting for my GSPD which I had never seen before to come out of the service shop so I could ride it 6200 miles to Alaska. A couple guys showed up on R90's and I fell in love with them on the spot ( the bikes not the guys :lol3 ) Later that evening my GSPD rolled out of the service shop and I didn't stop riding for 21 days. It pretty much occupies all my time now. It's a sickness for sure. Only now am I beginning to delve into the deeper sides of maintenance, and it is so easy it hurts.

Edit: oh yeah and they're fun to ride to cool places too :deal

I love my fully restored 92 GSPD because of its simplicity. No complex or $$$ ABS to fail, no computer controlled fuel injection to fail etc etc.

It is the best bike I have EVER owned (and I've had lots new and old).

If you get one, hang onto her forever :raabia

I'm glad to see such a positive response to this thread. Just to update everyone from my first post to start this thread, I've pulled the trigger and am sending payment this afternoon to the seller to purchase a 1993 GSPD with 40k miles on the clock with a rebuilt transmission with circlip by Anton and a rebuilt driveshaft with greasable u joints by Guy Henderson and a whole bunch of other updated and new parts. Only thing left is the diode board and solid mounts which are included in the sale. Stay tuned to other posts in other threads for many, many questions!

    Sure.

Is that a '77 R100S with a set of Dellortos and R90S engine badges?

    :dunno

Not to be critical, I'm just curious.

    :ear

edit: I see a /7 tank and frame.

Good eye, but you missed 1 thing.

    Blue ATE40 calipers.

That is a tell tale sign of a R100RS, so its a 77 R100rs frame with a 76 R90/6 motor that has had a little work done to it. Dellorto 40's, Siebenrock 1000cc high comp jugs, dual plugged heads and a 2.91 rear end.

Soon to have this over the winter.
