Well now that I have been to Mule canyon on a holiday weekend I am probably not going back on a holiday weekend..

Had some buck shot and some .308 fire hitting in our camp and on the main road next too us..found where it was coming from told them what was up and was totally blown off :huh I was told it must have been my own round echoing....haha I think not i know that wizzz sound and the thud when lead is hitting the ground.

anyway...we moved WAY to fuck away from them folks and ended up having a pretty good time .

off weekends and weekdays only now

But I'm looking at moving to the LA area and was wondering if anyone can help me out with finding a place to live in LA? Good areas, places to avoid, relatively cheap rent, stuff like that. I'm moving from Arizona and looking at places on craigslist resulted in some serious sticker shock.

L.A. is comprised of a million neighborhoods. then there is the Valley, Santa Monica, Pasadena, Burbank, Glendale, etc.

as far as L.A. proper, i'm a fan of the Eastside AKA Silver Lake, Echo Park, Los Feliz, Atwater Village, Eagle Rock, Highland Park.
Hollywood is congested, cheesy, transient, etc etc.
Downtown L.A. is getting cleaned up and looks promising, but after dark, it's still a zombie town.
anything south of the 10fwy is ghetto.
Culver City is becoming the next Silver Lake.
Santa Monica, Venice Beach, West L.A. are too far west for me, but are nice.

what do you do for a living? how old are you? do you have a family? these will narrow it down.

I'll be working in Hawthorne. I've only been to LA once, and that was for about 12 hours, so I really have no idea whats out there. I'll look into some of the places mentioned.
Oh, I'm 26, no family, I'm starting at SpaceX so I'm thinking money will be a little tight from what I've seen.

Just remember this when looking around. If there is no parking available during the weekday, don't move there. The less cars that are parked on the street, the better the hood.

since you'll be working in Hawthorne, you DO NOT want to commute from the Eastside. it will be over 1 hour with traffic, could be even 2 hours.

    stay on the Westside.

Venice Beach. Manhattan Beach. Redondo Beach. maybe Long Beach or Santa Monica. don't go any further away from your work. the 405 is a parking lot. take surface streets.

    Reasons why:
    1. Because the people have beds to sleep in
    2. Because it's a nice neighborhood so everyone has a nice big garage to park in
    3. Because the auto to household population ratio is low, which means not a flop house, apt complex, frat house....
    4. Because the cars are gone with the owners at work (Working people, not bums)
    5. Because the cars run and can be driven
    Did I get them all?

I'd like to stay under 1200 a month, but if 1500 puts me in a nicer area, it's doable. How is Gardena? There's a nice looking apartment there for a good price and it's about a mile from where I'll be working.
