Thanks guys, I'll try about 15psi cold tomorrow and see how things progress. I've re-posted this in the Mitas thread to see what they have to say. 40psi offroad? You can't be serious?? 40psi may be the max pressure for fully loaded maybe.
By the way 40psi is the max pressure not recommended at 40psi this would have no traction but good for power sliding thou, man your eye balls will rattling around in your head , on road not a problem ,
I'm not disagreeing that 15psi would be good to run on. It will be interesting to see what Mr Mitas has to say about it all. Regardless of the pressures, that wear doesn't look right. I must admit that it's been a while since I read the 40psi bit on the tyre..... Having re-read it, it's a "maximum load of 355kg @ 40psi"
Here is a bit of an update after a couple more days ride. I am now running with 15psi cold. Completed 440km now. The first post after 135km was fairly tame riding really. Yesterdays 200km was alot more aggressive riding with lots of rocky sections. Just as a comparison, the 3rd photo is my brothers D908 with 3000km on it, same bike, same tyre pressure. Similar rider etc. Think I know which one I would go for next. Maybe a different result in flat desert riding but when there is lots of hills and rock involved I wont be getting onother one. I would love to know how the MT21 would have handled it. I cant see it being any worse than the mitas. Oh and did I mention it doesn't do well in the mud
I`ve never run an MT21 on the back. From what I hear they are a good tire, but don`t wear very well; they don`t cost a lot so are probably worth a try.
Based on my experiences with Mitas and the Michelins made in Czecho, I think they have a quality control problem. Some tyres work great, and others have issues like separation and chipping. Its a bit of a lottery with them unfiortunately, because a good one is just that in its intended environment.
I am happy that the thread is in Vendor section as it is easier to find now. As an aside, I tend to think that Mr Mitas was (apart from providing personalised service), using us as guinea pigs regarding experimentation feedback! ~> I am OK with that, as if it helps MItas improve their game, then it works for me.
PRODUCT SAFETY RECALL MITAS E-07 ‘DUAL SPORT’ TYRES: 19” FRONT TUBELESS SIZES Mitas has identified a potential product safety issue associated with the tubeless seal of two sizes of E-07 tyres. Under certain conditions the tyre bead may leak air which could, in extreme circumstances, result in a rapid deflation of the tyre. Mitas has issued a voluntary recall of these tyres. The issue affects all tubeless (TL) 19” E-07 tyres produced in 2011 and 2012, in the following sizes: 100/90-19 E07 Dual Sport TL 57T 110/80-19 E07 Dual Sport TL 59T Please note that ALL stock of these sizes sold in Australia is affected. No other tyres are affected. Now I know why I went arse up last August.
He has been a bit quiet, but it has been the holiday season. Wonder how many people have been affected by these dodgy front tires. It's a pity they're having a problem as they are a great tire and handled well on my R1100GS. I have them fitted front and rear on my R100GS albeit with tubes.
The Czech tyre producer Mitas is voluntarily recalling 1,752 tubeless E-07 motorcycle tyres from the market. These tyres were sold to customers mostly in Europe. The tyre sizes subject to recall are: 110/80-19 M/C 59T E-07 TL MI 100/90-19 M/C 57T E-07 TL MI 110/80-19 M/C 59T E-07 DAKAR TL MI Under extreme conditions the affected tyres can suddenly lose air pressure. Customers can determine whether their tyre is subject to recall by checking the brand name MITAS, tyre name E-07, inscription tubeless and DOT codes ranging from 0111 through to 4812, on the tyre sidewall. No other Mitas tyres are affected. All customers are advised to contact the point of purchase to discuss options for replacement. As the Australian distributor, I can tell you that just over 100 of these tyres were sold here. We never brought in the Dakar version, so we are only talking about the two sizes of regular E-07. Prior to June 2012, all of the 100/90-19 size we sold were tube-type (and are unaffected by the recall). From June onwards, we sold the tubeless version. The 110/80-19 has always been tubeless, and we first sold those in December 2011. Therefore, certainly in Australia, the recall affects ALL (and only) TUBELESS 19" E-07 that were sold here. In 15 years of selling Mitas motorcycle, agricultural and industrial tyres, this is our first ever recall. It is unfortunate, but these things happen and we just want to get the suspect tyres off the streets and to keep riders safe and happy. All of the dealers that bought these tyres have of course been notified, and we are in the process of speaking to each one of them to follow up. We've already identified a number of tyres that were sitting on dealers' shelves and others that have already been replaced, so we're getting there. Mitas notified the authorities in each of their sales territories as part of their recall procedure, including the ACCC here in Australia. We have found them to be extremely helpful, and they are satisfied with the steps we are taking. If you, or anyone you know, has fitted 19" E-07 front tyres within the last 2 years, PLEASE ask them to check whether they are the tubeless or tube type construction. If tubeless, they should stop using the tyre immediately and contact their dealer to arrange a replacement. Although Mitas have indicated that the problem is eliminated by using a tube (and we believe about half of these tyres would have been fitted with tubes), our concern is that a tyre could be taken off and find itself being re-used later without a tube. Therefore these tyres need to be destroyed. We will gladly give you a brand new tyre in exchange for the destruction of your old one. Again, please contact your dealer in the first instance, but if you have any problems or questions you can contact us directly on 1300 733 031.
I've been in contact with a couple of European riders`s who knew about the recall six weeks ago, Australia only gets advised one week ago. Wonder why it took so long? it's not like the notification had to come by ship.
I have no inside knowledge but I would not be surprised if it took that long to get the paperwork done. Australia can be one of the most bureaucratic countries in the planet.
Hi All, Just bought a new to me 2010 XT660Z and I am planning a trip to Morocco. I want a tyre that is good for some road use and the gravel/dirt roads I will riding in Morocco. The MITAS EO-9's as recommended by Wizzabren looks a good choice? The tyre size for the XT660Z is 130/80 - 17 but this tyre looks a little wider? I cant quick make out the width in the photo on the tyre sidewall? Has anyone gone wider than 130, perhaps MITAS dont do a wider tyre anyhow? Any advice gratefully recieved.
Not a bad rear tyre , but don't use one on the front( not good in deep sand and I assume that would be expected in Morocco) I have used a 130/80 by 18 on my DRZ400. My mates have them on DR650s with good results. They are a hard wearing tyre and you should expect 4-6000 km.
