The 84-85 XR200R are RFVC engines based on the XR250R. The XR200 built before '84 and after '85 were 2 valve engines. '86 and newer XR200's use the same basic frame and body parts as the '84-'85 XR250R and XR200R's.
thanks, good to know just got permission to rebuild not only an 84 and an 85 XR250 but an XR200 as well
still looking for a shock no a working shock for an 86 model XR250 a friendly inmate sold me a shock nice shock, very clean, great condition just not for my bike appears to be from a 96- XR600 so please, if anyone has a shock flopping around have mercy on a bike that will stay in pieces until I find a shock
I might be interested in trading a '87 XR250R shock for your bike for the XR6 shock??? How long eye to eye?

If you are trying to send this message to multiple recipients, remove MentalGuru from the recipient list and send the message again." answer to your PM: think? that you and I have different goal/perspectives on what we want in the bike, the shock is for mine is a perfect restauration, frame up maybe I'll take the advice you did give me between the lines and see if the local suspension guru will take me as apprentice thanks fiep <!--/POSTERROR do not remove this comment-->
Looking for comments on removal of the air box/intake backfire screen. Who still has one installed and how is the power affected? Is this screen really a performance issue?
I removed it from my KLR650's carb, and couldn't tell any difference. It was a minor PITA. Don't plan to remove it on other bikes as I think the gain is miniscule. 1911fan
I got my CRF450R Clutch/Hot Start perch. After looking it over, I've learned that the cable ends are not interchangeable. I called Motion Pro and I can get 2 custom cables made for $75 + shipping. Before I go that route I wanted to ask the collective if anyone has tried the XR650R Clutch/Hot Start perch and if it worked with the stock OEM XR250R cables with no additional modifications. I've heard guys say the improvement is "noticeable" on the KLX250. Don't know about the XR. But there are certain benefits. It keeps stuff from getting into the carb. We had a local guy report having a backfire that caught his bike on fire in his garage. He was lucky enough to have tools handy to pull the seat off quick and put the fire out before too much damage ensued and wished the screen was back in.
Yeah hot start =/= de-comp I have not tried the 650R perch because could never find one at the price I wanted to pay, but I have read on TTalk that it worked fine. I think I will just cut a few inches of the stupid 250 de-comp lever.
Anyone know what parts off an XR650R interchange to the XR250R? My friend is completely parting out his 2001 XR650R and I have a '98 XR250R, may grab some of the parts if they'd work on my bike.
Found this under Scott Summers 10 XR tips. Tip #1 is: 1. To increase intake airflow, Scott removes the airbox snorkel and uses an aftermarket air filter. Scott recommends not removing the backfire screen from the air filter cage because it changes the intake air velocity and causes the bike to have poor throttle response at low rpm. That's good enough for me.
I know the chain guide will bc I took mine off the 650 and put it on the 250. Same with the front wheel, but I have xr400 forks. I'm sure there are other things. I'd ride over and just compare the pieces you're interested in.
Hi Folks, I'm helping out a buddy rebuild a 1985 XR250R (dual carb version). So far so good, we got the carbs cleaned and ready to be reinstalled. I want to do a quick valve adjustment while I have the bike apart, but we don't have a service manual (it's on order). Anyone know the intake/exhaust valve clearances for the 1985 Honda XR250R? Thanks in advance!
Inmates.... I have a Seat Concepts seat listed in the Flea Market under Parts. A great improvement over the stock seat ! ! !
