My girlfriend rides my raised DR650 on occasion, it is hilarious. We do the launch and catch routine as well. She always comes back giggling insanely and babbling about power, acceleration etc. It must be a shock to go from a TTR125 to a 650. It is fun to watch and once she's rolling she does great.

By the title I thought you needed women. Clearly I was mistaken. However in the future if you find you are actually short a few woman I would be more than happy to donate my wife...

I had mine done by Jeff Slavens here in Colorado Springs. Mostly because he was local and if it didn't work I wanted to be able to take in back to him. When I bought the bike I budgeted around $1000 for the lowering and it was right around $900. :eek1

$alty, I know. But now I have a bike I love and a suspension that I can swap out to bike #5 that I will be picking up tomorrow!

Our friend CJ Rider (aka the evil leprechaun) got a KLX last year. She's our hero at 4'10", I know she got the lowering link and maybe cut down the seat. I took it for a spin and it fit me perfect, nice smooth ride too. They are really nice bikes.

For reference, Katie is normal sized and I’m the short one here:


As I type this up, I realize that maybe us RFS folk may generally need to take more “baby steps” than most folks to find a bike that works for us. Here’s what’s passed through our garage:

DUAL SPORT BIKES THAT I LIKE

Suz DR650
-Great for long distance road trips
-Wears me out when we go “exploring” on narrow or technical trails
-Completed my first Iron Butt ride on this bike: 1000 miles of dirt in 24 hours
-Great to have all that four stroke power up at 13,114ft


Kaw KLX250
-Great for “exploring”
-Must work hard to keep up on highway pavement, but doable
-Completed my second endurance ride on this bike: 50 mtn passes in 50 hours

STREET BIKES THAT DIDN’T WORK

Buell Blast
-Fits “mini me” like a glove and is great fun going downhill
-Has a tough time going uphill where I live at 8,465ft

Ducati Monster
-Beautiful bike
-Has the turning radius of a London double-decker bus, which is not so good in a parking lot if you cannot touch the ground

DIRT BIKES THAT I OUTGREW

Hon XR100
-Small, unintimidating, and pretty cheap
-A little tough to kick start, but a good beginner bike

Yam TTR125L
-Small, unintimidating, and pretty cheap, easier to kick start
-A good beginner bike, but not much of a step up from the XR100

GG Pampera
-Odd ergonomics and odd components
-Construction not quite as tough as Japanese models

Kaw KX100
-Decent suspension, really lightweight, and could kick start with my hand
-Tough for steep or technical hill climbs


DIRT BIKES THAT I LIKE TODAY

KTM105
-Oh yeah, this bike has all the benefits of the KX, but better suspension, power, ergonomics, and components such as a hydraulic clutch


Service Honda 250 (CRX250 engine shoved into a CR85 frame)
-All the power in a small size with an electric starter
-Expensive a little odd ergonomics


GG TXT200Pro
-Helps to learn tech skills

Hey jessepit- (I know Oregon is a big state and all, but...) Do you know other lady in the first two pics? She's a long-time dirt/dualsport ADVRider from eastern Oregon. Katie actually rides me into the ground and I don't think I would have ever completed the Five Miles of Hell trail in Utah if I didn't have her behind me saying, "I'm gonna kick yer butt if you take that bail point!" :eek1

Hey TellyDoug- Will and I are totally looking forward to riding some more crazy rides with you this summer! ... and I'm trying to avoid the visual of you with "girl parts," eh!

Nope, don't know her, but I'm kinda glad cause I'm sure her skills would put mine to shame.:eek1

Jen is also a fantastic cheerleader, always trying to get us to challenge ourselves. I gave her the nickname "Evil Little Leprechaun" because she's always trying to get us to go ride the Rainbow Trail with her, a notoriously difficult single track.
