And the last update for this thread (will post the mounting part in the "blown clutch replacement thread"): called 5 dealers in a 300kms radius and no one had it in stock, but one wonderfull dealer in Rennes (pointing him out for his kindness and willingness to help me), Nicolas was his name, was ready to order it for me in 'urgency' for tomorrow! I'll bring him a bottle of wine with the 284 . So tomorrow at 9 I get my clutch kit, at 11 I'm back home, and at 1pm I'm ready to head back to my students appartment! A shame that it didn't bust a day earlier ).

Loutre:

Remember to soak the new friction disks in motor oil for at least several hours before installing them ... overnight would be better. If you install them "dry" they will burn up quickly....

Also I wrap a layer of tape around the splines of the gear shift shaft so as to protect the oil seal from being cut up by the splines in the event I am not as careful as I should be ...

and ... be sure to torque the cover bolts in the recommended order!

I cannot find this info - what size are the axles on the front and rear of the 800GS? Parts info only shows a part number but nowhere to see what size they are.

Similar question to above. If I want to get a set of spoked wheels for my F650GS, what sizes am I looking for?

19x2.5 front
17x3.5 rear

Is there a difference in axle sizes, brake rotor bolt pattern, rear cog pattern, etc

Is this an option:

This is a 19X2.5 For a YZ250. I don't know enough to know if it is a front or rear. I see a disc flange on the other side, but it looks like maybe a gear alignment and bolt holes on this side, so rear?

Perhaps this goes somewhere else, I don't know. So my bike was backed into, I have their insurance information etc... I am waiting for what they want me to do. Has anyone dealt with Statefarm for motorcycle damages? I have spoken to two dealers and they have said that they will most likely get a quote then send it to them and battle back and forth. Do they tend to give you a figure for everything that was damaged, even if it is solely cosmetic? I am trying to get a rough estimate of what to expect, both in terms of what may be repaired, and the duration of down time and bologna I will be dealing with.

I was told that they will replace fork lowers for scratches, and plastics etc... The biggest issue is that my pannier and pannier rack have been damaged.

Once the dealer sent the estimate to State Farm (I also got a copy) it went through the hands of a few different people before they made their decision. They also sent somebody out to look at my bike.

The dealer told me a company as big as State Farm rarely questions the dealers estimate if its within reason. They didnt have any issues with mine, there was no battle back and forth for me at all. After about a week the insurance company made the decision sent me a check for what they determined was 51% of the bikes value, they also covered my helmet. The hardest part was the wait.

My bike is currently at the dealer awaiting parts, some of which are being replaced due to cosmetic damage, including plastics and decals.

Here is the rub, there was not another person or insurance company involved in my situation. If the other guys insurance has to pay they may put up a bit of a fight to try and save money. They may also drag their feet sending out an inspector since you are not their client, I dont know. This was the first claim I have ever filed.

I dont know if this made a difference but my bike is a 2013 with full coverage.

Gotcha, I figured it may be a hassle in that regards. Yeah I will take some $$$ for some cosmetically misfigured fully functional parts... But the pannier rack is hosed, broke a weld etc...

I don't imagine it will be too difficult, the biggest hassle is that I am on the move (bike will be in a truck) just not around in one location for more than 5 weeks for the next couple of months. Thanks for the scenario.

Will see how much some tig welding will cost (money dance)

It sounds suspicious to me alrready. You should just have to get a quote or 2. If the quotes are close they won't question it. Most dealers will replace rather than repair because that takes less time. The biggest problem a lot of people have is getting the adjuster out to look at the damage and sign off on the estimate.

A kid I know had a guy broadside his pickup and total it. The guy had State Farm and they jacked him around to the point he had to get an attorney to get the insurance company to do anything. The insurance company blamed delay on the adjuster and the adjuster blamed it on the insurance company. After a month he was still without a vehicle. I don't know if it was because he was a kid or that is the way they do buisness.

Ok, being new to the F800GS world, I don't know yet what I need to get to be able to plug GPS and other devices into the power outlet/socket next to the ignition on my 2010 F800GS? Eg, the standard size cigarette lighter plug on my GPS does not fit into the smaller receptor on the BMW. Is there an adaptor or a different cord I need to get?

You can use an adaptor, but I find that the multiple connections usually results in one of them coming loose on a rough road. You can wire it directly to the battery, which is the best, or you can wire a regular cigarette plug to the battery and use that.

I would stay away from the battery because it will continue to draw if you leave the device plugged in. If you are hard wiring the plug in there are many locations. Some people run off the head light wires, but I ran mine off the powerlet socket by the key. I actually stripped wires, sealed everything back up for a solid connection but you can get those wire tappers that will make it easier, just seal/secure with electrical tape.

I like a hard wire to the battery for a GPS because it won't shut off and then have to reboot and locate itself everytime you turn the bike off. It won't run your battery down. You can run it on its own 2 aa batteries for a day or two so that draw wouldn't have much effect on your battery.
