haha nice, thanks, i was just going to leave it as is and replace the rubber, but that seems like a better solution.
The hotstart lever lacks the leverage needed for decomp unless you have gorilla hands. I tried it and it can work, but it sucks in my opinion. So ended up running a ASV c6 clutch lever and kept the factory perch for the decomp, and it all fits on the bars with a multi-switch.
I was looking at the Steel Subframe from globetrotin.com http://shop.globetrottin.com/product.sc?productId=34&categoryId=21 http://shop.globetrottin.com/product.sc?productId=33 Any reviews. How much stronger than stock, can it take a full load of gear?
The old Pro perch had a longer lever for the decomp, but since then they standardised to the smaller levers for the more popular hot start on the newer range.
Help a brother out..... I've got my DR up for sale or trade and was thinking about a street legal XR650R or a 650L....what are the pros and cons, basically? Should I be concerned with the over heating issue during Georgia summer rides of the XR? Can I get electric start on an XRR? I want to get a little more aggressive off road, but like the idea of japanese reliability. Thanks for your thoughts!
Also a popular route is to use a separate de-comp perch from an xr400 or a xr600. I was looking too as my pivot hole is worn out from an incorrect pivot bolt. Those asv perches are sure nice!
In the fall I installed this subframe and used it for a 13000km trip around Central America. I had the bike loaded with a drybag and two Pelican cases as side panniers. The subframe installed to the bike ok. But I found it tougher to add the airbox and fender to the subframe. Things didn't seem to fit properly and I ended up doing some shimming to get a better fit in spots. The subframe did last through the trip without any problems. Brian
Awesome! That would be less ugly, good info. I can see a way to integrate the decomp perch into the ASV, but I gots more imoprtant stuff to do.
If you can get over not having electric start (we call it being men) the xrr is way more of a bike than the xrl if you are looking to get in to the dirt. I don't think the xrl would be much change from a DR. You can get an electric start for it, but I wouldn't. Go ride one before you buy, preferably one that is setup.
going thru craigslist to kill time and found this: http://madison.craigslist.org/mcy/3698254196.html No affiliation, just FYI. I paid $4200 for an 07 a few years ago. Bike had less than 2K and was fully dual sported with all the doo dads. Anyway, carry on.
Anyone seen a set of Johnny Campbell signature clamps for sale or the likes? They are proving to be the most difficult part to find for sale - and BRP can no longer supply them new
Yep, that's the daddy! Some of the Baja bikes had both clamps blue and some just the top one, but the top one is the tricky one because it is etched with JC's signature. When they do show up it seems so many people are after them that they sell very fast. BRP said they could sell me their new ones un-anodised, but when I agreed to go that route they became less helpful and never got back to me with a price....
