As I keep losing mine, I keep buying 'em. Haven't yet found the right one. Thinking about one of these new ones from Buck No, it doesn't come in orange
Yeah, I know, plain, boring, nothing fancy, but holds one hell of an edge and can't break it. I can get them for about $15 at a local store. Just have to look and make sure you are getting one that is made in the USA. A lot of gerbers stuff is made in China now.
Original Leatherman tool... Vistorinox Fisherman... Kershaw Vapor II... Yes, I do carry all three. A fellow can't have too many tools.
Another thread ... with lots of posts and pics ... in case you get bored ;-) http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=307929
The Mora knife... there is no better knife for any adventuring you might ever do, hold a killer edge. are like 10$ so you won't care if you end up hammering it through a tree with a branch to make firewood (and they don't much mind you doing that to them) for a pocket knife I carry at all times a kershaw scallion speedsafe great one hand opening, holds a good edge.
I keep my Kershaw Ken Onion Leek in my tank bag at all times. I love the assisted one-hand opening. The nice comes razor sharp out of the box, and it's stayed that way through lots of abuse.
That's my problem. What I do is buy about 6 of the $3.99 auto parts store lockback specials and stash them everywhere. One in my pocket, one in the tankbag, one in the pickup, etc. They hold an edge every bit as good as you would expect a $3.99 knife to but when I lose it (and I will) I'm only out $3.99. As part of the permanent kit on the bike I keep an original Leatherman and an Old Timer Cattleman. Those are what I use when I get to the campsite and actually have to do some food prep or something.
I carry a rescue type knife in my tankbag and always carry a Tinker Swiss Army knife, and a Leatherman Charge XTi (or sometimes Gerber, SOG, or Kershaw versions of Leatherman)
Okay, maybe you'll cut me. Meantime, though, you've got a HUGE tree growing RIGHT out of the top of your head
Oh-ho- nice choice! I swap in this instead: Spyderco Native: S30V, (a modern cutlery-specific steel); vicious sharp factory edge, great ergonomics, $40 at Walmart SuperCenters (Item #60 in the knife case.) PS- your mag looks empty.
I have the same knife. CPM S30V is an amazing steel. I use my knives hard on a daily basis and the Native keeps a usably sharp edge for 3-4 months. However, its a bitch to sharpen. I ended up getting a Lansky sharpener with the diamond stones.
I carry a spyderco Endura, had one for over 10 years till the plastic clip broke. Still have that one in the tool box. The new ones have a metal clip. When sharpening this super hard steel I have found nothing better than this http://www.speedysharp.net/ With it I can get any knife to brand new sharpness. In the case of Spyderco, they turn out razor blade shaving sharp. This little wonder will also sharpen anything!!! On soft steel like the one used on Machetes, you can peel the irregularities like a potato skin. I have had mine for 10 years and it is still going strong sharpening Machetes, lawnmower blades, scissors etc.
