Gimpy is lame I don't want to hang out with him. I'll show up for the rest of you nice folks, though.

    I like the idea of the remote location- more so the better.`89o0l;

I'm also too lazy to read the thread right now, so what is the status of getting to have fires?

Oh yeah, the boss, the baby, and the mutts will be in attendance. If I get lucky, I'll bring the 450 and look at it longingly.

Last year Hollywood did a stellar job of protecting Gimpy from the killer raccoons, so we should be very safe. HA!

EDIT #2. Well, it looks like the boss won't be able to make it either weekend, so I'll be either running with the Cujo and his brother and possibly little man. Let me know if I need to bring the camper and it can easily handle the cooking duties and I think the battery can last a day or so for the fridge.

Depending on how much of an "Adventure" ride you want to make it, the 4x4 camp at Gold Lake is stunning.

However, it's not an easy ride to get into. I also don't think I can get the camper in there- the Jeep no problem, but the camper without a pintle hitch, might get mangled. I made it in on the GS with bald Tourances, but did fall down once (like that is a surprise) and it is a full on rock garden the whole way in.

It is free camping with now facilities other than outhouses.

I've heard the other campground at Gold Lake is nice, but will probably have other folks there.

    Gold Lake ?

I'd assume we not do the 4x4 campground for those who drive in. Maybe I'll just drive up and bring my table, extra chair or 3, cooking supplies so we have a stove and whatnot.

    ok.....just note:

Gold Lake at an elevation of 6400 feet. This campground has 37 sites. Fire rings, vault toilets and garbage service is provided. There is no water or tables.

That's at 1,500 higher than Calaveras big trees. That's definitely near snow country that time of year.

I won't be able to join you but visited Snake Lake earlier this summer. The lake is covered with Lilly pads and is probably pretty swallow. The campground has horse corrals so people with horse trailers have no issue getting in and it is no problem for bikes. Dirt roads take off from the campground. They have some tables and there was water in the summer- don't know about now. They say moderate use but no one was there when I visited on a Saturday. There is no fee!
Just something else to consider or at least look at if you are in the general area. Its a cool road going into it.

My sister had an accident resulting in an exploded knee. She is requiring 24/7 assistance which none if us can afford, so other sis and I are playing tag team here in Fresno. My attendance at FC will depend on how the recovery is going, and whose turn it is in the barrel. Prob be a last minute decision for me :norton

    Gold Lake,

Pretty sure all the Campgrounds along Gold Lake HWY are closed By Sept 30 or Oct17 were you able to confirm?

I was at Packsaddle a few weeks ago for Labor Day. It has a hand pump well. I don't think "they" can lock that up. Diablo CG also on Packer Lake Rd has a small creek running through it that still has water in it. You can always filter the lake water too.

Lots of fun dirt riding around there too.

Honestly, I hear they already got snow up there.

Lets just play this by ear, depending on whats open as we approach the scheduled weekend.

Either way, its not happening in Calveras again as I hate going to the same place year after year :puke2

SUCKS. Well, just play it by ear. Good luck!

    FYI:

All the federal campgrounds are closed right now because the govt. can't
    get it's shit together.

We were camping at the Kirk Creek USFS campground in Big Sur last
weekend and they kicked everybody out and locked the campground
entrance gates. Same at Plaskett Creek and Ponderosa.

FWIW, Met some friends at Gold Lake campground in Tahoe NF this weekend. There were several people camping there. Did not see any signs regarding closures. Maybe they just have not gotten to it yet.

My bet is there is no consistency to the NF closures. I was told by someone that the FS is still operating because they have a contract that they will keep working and get back pay. I have been seeing the normal amount of FS traffic in my area.
