I bought a lightly used DRZ400 a few weeks ago and got geared up quick to do some longer rides. This weekend, I took off w/ a couple friends (riding a gladius and and EX250) on my first good ride (almost 800 mi) w/ this bike: Friday Evening after work, we took off from Folsom and went though Davis and Winters, out Hwy 128 to Hwy 101 to 128 some more to Fort Brag for the night. We got in late and tired, but the ride out 128 sure was fun. Saturday we took off from Fort Brag. The little stretch of Hwy 1 above there is some of my favorite road anywhere. The last 20 miles before Hwy 101 are a jumble of 10 to 25 MPH corners w/ visibility all the way through, as well as a few without and hiding gravel ;-). We went along The Avenue of the Giants and Hwy 101 until Hwy 36. From there, we cut straight across the state to Quincy where we stayed Saturday night. Sunday was much more leisurely. We took off on hwy 89 for North Tahoe and then 80 back to Auburn, and Hwy 49 to Folsom again. Hwy 49 has some great low speed corners. I've gotta say, I'm really enjoying riding the DRZ. I fitted a set of 17" rims onto it and a 4gallon tank. It handles like a dream and it just a ton of fun to ride.
Congrats on the new ride and putting on some fun miles. If you make Ft Bragg a destination more often drop me a line. My friends have a great, and reasonably priced ocean front rental house just north of town with a private cove & beach. I also hit salmon falls road outside of folsom once or twice a week if you want to ride.
a8ksh4 from time to time myself and another rider go up and do the FS roads off Wentworth Springs and such. Nothing planned in the near term due to conflicts but, if you're interested we'll keep you in the loop.
@Dirtypumpkin,74C5 Yah, hit me up if you're heading out for a ride. Evening stuff's good and any weekends when I'm on call I'll be in town. Seems like I only get over to Fort Brag once or twice a year. I want to do a trip up to Crater Lake later this fall.
