I had myself a wonderful 3 day weekend based out of Telluride from 6/27-6/29. We started out in Montrose on Friday with some epic mud hill riding. Then Saturday was a full day of riding passes. Sunday was a slow day with some quad copter filming and a short singletrack ride at Stoner creek. Pics to follow
We started off in Montrose at Flat top riding area. Riding buddy Chad in his clown suit. Wrong way! Climb back to the top, Tis steep! After riding Monster Ditch, Chad was blasting across the flats in front of me and I see him look down. Then BAM! prairie dog taking a dirt nap in the trail. He had hit it (accidentally!) and killed it. No worries, the dogs were in force out there. Then it was back to Big Bertha to lose some altitude. Nice views
More Montrose. There are some really cool formations out there, lots of collapses and arroyos, this one was big enough to ride over and let water flow under, cool! Wierd purple rocks And GIANT dog holes... The next day we rode from base camp aka Chad's parent's house. This was more of a Dual Sport day, no singletrack My ugly mug. Riding into Telly to meet some friends. Heading out toward Ophir Brothers. Found some cool old mining buildings Staror and rotor from an old Genny. The engine that ran it more passes and more mines! Jesse thought this was a good time to check the bolt that was backing out of his subframe! not a good thing when the bike folds in half! still snow on a few of the passes, had to reroute this one down into Silverton Coming into Silverton for lunch. I love this building half buried in the earth. MOAR MINES! We stopped by Animas Forks for a reminiscence of last year's ride where we were forced to take shelter from the rain here.
Next up was up to the pass above Animas Forks, Engineer on one side and Cinnamon on the other, I believe. Jesse did a little 'showing off'... Up top riding into OOO-Ray Day three brought a slow morning and a stop at Stoner Mesa Trail on the way back to Flagstaff. Chad's hand was hurting from the previous days (thumb tendonitis from work), so I was on my own. Chad's brother and a couple friends were a ways ahead of me if anything happened. After 2 miles of fairly technical singletrack climbing out of the river valley, the trail gives way to some fast, flowing singletrack up on the mesa. Very fun, but the entire trail was an exercise in precise tire placement. Logs cut too close to the trail below and a narrow, trenchy trail up top. All in all a great weekend. No one got hurt, nothing broke, and the slow leak in my front tire waited till Flag to give me grief. Hope you enjoyed!
Great pics! We are finally getting the trails open. Lots of snow this year means a shorter riding season. Some friends dug a tunnel on Calico just to get through the drift!
Haha, That's awesome! I would have loved to see that. The mud hills are way fun, and they go on forever. Bring your A game.

Must be easy to register a dirt bike in Colorado. Looks like you guys just slapped a tag on the back fender.
We're from Flagstaff, AZ. They'll plate anything here. Lots of guys I know on street legal smokers. But I understand CO is pretty easy as well.
