It seems to me that the practical result is that a car which has the lead will now need to build an even larger gap between itself and the car behind, if it wishes to come out of the pits with the lead.

Combine that with different tire strategies and we might see more lead changes.

Funny that Kobayashi wrecked a Ferrari demonstration car on wet streets in Moscow. If they want a driver who wrecks cars, why don't they hire Sato from IndyCar?

Good point. Anyone yet calculated how much time 20 kph will add to the average pit stop? IIRC pit deltas vary between 17 and 24 seconds.

It varies at each track but adds about 4 sec. to a stop time at Hungaroring. So n+1 will cost an additional 16-17 sec. over n.

Scratching my head on that one? About 4 seconds a lap is correct for hungaroring.

What is n? (number of stops?) Stop times will increase from 20s (average time last year) to around 24s per stop with new pit lane speed limit.

Red Bull depressingly quick, but this track is perfect for them.

It will be interesting to see what difference the tyre compound changes make to the likes of Mercedes and Red bull, two of the teams adversely affected by degradation in high temperature races.

The forecast I've seen is for 40 deg C air and 50 deg C track on Sunday.

Before the compound changes those conditions would have benefited the likes of Lotus.

I guess we'll have to wait until the race to find out, we know that Free Practice and even qualifying this season rarely gives an accurate indication of race pace.

Has Lewis been working out, or what? The two others at the qualifying interview table looked positively skinny compared to him. Lewis used to have a slight build, but seems to have bulked up this season...

Driving with flat tires does that.

A good mix of cars at the front of the grid. They're hinting that the Mercedes may wear out its tires early, a nervous car. We shall see. Hard circuit to pass on, so let's hope Hamilton can keep Vettel behind him. But the Red Bull has unleashed some fine starts this season, might do so again. Unbelievably, Vettel has never won here, despite the track seemingly being a Red Bull track.

I came home tonight looking forward to watching qualifying and my DVR missed it. Formula1 seemed to be missing from the program's Hungarian title somehow.
