Took the morning to take my forks off.

The first one came off fine, but the other side.... i stripped one of the star bolts that hold the caliper, so fuck my life, ill have to figure out how to do that side.

(i had to install it back into the bike in order to get the top cap off)

Once i got it off you just slide it down and pour out the oil.

After you take out the cartridge. you can see that not only are they the same. but the xChallenge one is adjustable and a little longer!

I dont have my new Race Tech springs yet, but i just wanted to see how it all went together. Looks great!

if anyone wants to know where the xChallenge gets the extra 40mm of travel take a look at the uppers(gold tube) from both forks and you have your answer, it is ~40mm shorter then the F800GS allowing the fork stroke to be longer giving it the extra travel.

bike look good ... how many time to do the tank swap ??

I did it over a few days working maybe 2 hours a day.

If you are putting the X-Challenge cartridges into the F8 outer tubes, make sure that the travel is limited internally, and not by the longer upper tube bottoming out.

It shouldn't, the cartridge body is 4-5mm longer, besides that both dampers compress and extend the same length, the upper tubes are ~40mm shorter, the lower tubes ~40mm longer, they both share the same stock spring (same exact part number)so all things equal it should not be an issue since the cartridge sits further in the lower tubes which is what allows it to move the extra 40mm or so on the xChallenge.
I have ridden mine on some pretty rough terrain and have hit a few drops and have yet to bottom it out. I should only travel as far as the spring allows it to.
Static sag was a ~3-4mm higher but that should be caused by the stiffer Ohlin's springs.
Also remember static sag should be shorter on the xChallenge since it is close to 100lbs. lighter

The day has come! The Xchallenge cartridge swap is complete! A fully bolt up mod that cost me a total of $275. Way better than $1,300 for something very similar.

Took it around the block ( thats all i can do since there is 20" of snow on the ground) and WOW!!!!! Just wow. What a difference. It blows my mind just a little bit!

Literally all you do is switch out the cartridge and put in new springs. anyone can do it!

I posted on here asking if people had any. within a few days a guy contacted me. they are out there just got to keep looking.

Well i rode my bike into town yesterday. it felt amazing. I might have gone too stiff on the springs but oh well.

So today i went and filled up both tanks. I went to Sams Club and put in 9gals on 91 fuel. drove out of the parking lot and less than 300ft to the freeway on ramp. Then it happened...

Bike started to stutter hard. backfiring too. im now on the freeway. i have alittle power but not till 1/2 throttle. and its really deep and throaty. i limp it on the shoulder till the next exit and get off.

once down the off ramp and under 10mph it dies. i push it onto the sidewalk and get off. there is gas shooting out of the charcoal canister/ vent line. So i shut the TT tank valves off. i open the seat and none of the fuel lines from the TT tank are leaking. now the gas is only dripping out the vent line. i start it back up. it hesitates a little then fires right up.

I get on and try to get it to the nearest parking lot 75ft away. i have power but when the RPMs drop the bike dies. I start it up 2-3 times and get to the parking lot. then the bike restarts, the gauges flash and the caution sign comes on then goes away. i then restart the bike and it runs fine.... i drive it around the lot till people look at me weird. then i ride it 10miles home.

I think the problem is that i dont have a shut off before the main tank from the TT tank, so ill have to keep it closed till i want to fill up (just like the TT instructions say too).

Once I forgot to close the valves at the TT tank when I was filling up. I only put 2 gallons in the TT tank. But it sure made a big mess, bike was running ok though.

Now it looks like the gaskets at the connection from the main tank to the TT tank start leaking. So from what I see I have to get the main tank out in order to replace them.

Since I bought this bike with the tank on, I never messed around with it. Anything you could tell me on how to get the main tank out?

Do I have to take off the TT tabk as well (I guess so)?

I sure hope my Haynes manual comes in time ....

All you need to do is unbolt the 4 bolts that hold it to the bike, and unhook the fuel lines.

Yeah, well there are mounts that attach from the subframe to the tank in the rear and there are cross suport piece up front

Got some Big Block rear tires in the mail and got it on my bike. Took it for a ride in the forest today, what a ride! New rear tire and new suspension make a huge difference!

I still need to toon the forks and i plan to do this this weekend in Death Valley. But these tires are badass! i got them for $115 and they are worth every penny!!!

Nice pic's amigo. Did you have any issues with your brake lines catching stuff...???

My brake line stays far enough back, never had a problem.
