Nice! Looks like the only things you're missing are the 1200 GS engine and shaft drive! Looking forward to hearing about how the bike and gear perform during the trip. Sounds fun, ride safe.
Has anyone out there had trouble with the hooks on the backside of the vario cases? I was told by the dealer that you can pull hard to extend the cases and it wouldn't hurt anything, but it seems like the hooks are now weak and flimsy from all the pulling. They are bending and it is impossible to extend the case. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> <o></o> At this point I am considering reinforcing the hooks with plastic weld epoxy or bolting metal hooks to the cases alongside the plastic ones. <o></o> Anyone else run into this? Any preferred solutions.<o></o>
Beautiful ride Nick! On the front beak, you'll find you can run it all the way to just shy of the center screw touching the black recess in the fender and have more clearance/rigidity. Denser...you need a beak too!!!!! The black on red is my favorite! Cheers
So I bought the dealer demo for a discount it had 2000 miles on it then now I have 9000 on it within the last three months, it’s been a lot of fun and I love the bike however I want to lower my highway rpms and was wondering if anyone has done any cog swapping on this model I travel frequently in the 80 mph range in upstate NY ( not too worried about the speed limit as I am frequently passed by faster bikes and most crazy NY drivers) and it’s a little too close to rev limit for my comfort. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> <o></o> <o></o> <o></o> <o></o> <o></o> Just a little info about the bike it has the stock luggage which is almost always in the expanded form and a 2x2 cycles rack which I usually have a bike on so it does carry some weight so I don’t want to nerf my acceleration ability’s. <o></o> <o></o> <o></o> <o></o> Any help is appreciated, thanks!<o></o> Pic for those intrested http://imgur.com/jxGuTUg?tags
Holy smokes! 133,000 visits ! It never occurred to me when I started this thread, it would gain such traction. I don't visit here as often because I have since sold my 650 for an 800 but I'm glad to see the GS 650 thread thriving. I miss that GS650. It felt light, quick and fun as hell.....
Same for me... I used to follow this thread a lot but I have since got an F800GS. I also miss the G650GS but love the F8 as well.
Hello gurus of the G560GS! I've read through the whole thread, however, it is possible that I missed the information I'm seeking as I have been consuming barley pops... I'm in the waaaayyyyy preliminary stages of looking for the "next bike" and the G650GS has repeatedly caught my attention. It's in the price range that might actually be possible for me within the next year or so, the specs look right and it'll suit me for the type of off road riding I'd like to do. What I'm curious about is how it would be for carting the spouse around with me from time to time. It's not a matter of "is it powerful enough", but if it would be comfortable enough. I know comfort is a subjective topic since different folks have varying thresholds so as such, I'm looking for a general response from anyone who's done some 2 up riding on the little GS. In the distant future when I can actually really tease myself with a new bike by stepping foot into a dealer, I'll take her along so she can put her butt in on the pillion seat. For now, since I'm still in research mode I thought I'd pose this dumb question for anyone willing to answer it. Thanks!
That small piece of real estate called the pillion seat is tiny on most smaller MC's & this is also true for the big GS's & sport tourers too. I suspect that only the largest touring bikes have the "lazy boy" type seat back there-so it boils down to her & what she'll settle for? Some MC's the rear peg position makes for poor leg placement. I know this, I would not ride back there for very long ! My wife can take it for a pizza trip, thats it.
The pillion seat on the mini-GS looks better than the one my current motorcycle has! From what my wife says on the subject, her biggest requirement is having something to lean back on because it makes her feel more secure. A top box with a back pad would fulfill that need. Interestingly enough, at least according to the cycle-ergo website, her feet position would be about the same as they are on my Suzuki S40. The big change would be the fact that the pegs on the G650 aren't mounted to the swing arm, so she wouldn't have to put up with every bump in the road being directly transmitted to her feet. I probably answered my own question for the most part when I posted it last night while a little PUI. I'll just need to take her to the dealer with me when the time comes and have her sit on the bike, and hopefully the dealer will let her go on the test ride with me. Just wondered if anyone who owns one spent much time hauling a passenger around.
I have 2012 G650GS and we ride two up a fair bit. My wife actually finds it not bad when compared the my last ride which had a Mustang two up two piece. Like some else mentioned, the illusion of a back providing a feeling of security is a big thing. I found a used one and modified it to fit the G650GS for 20.00 rather than spend 300 to 400 on a new one. Happy wife, happy life they say and after 33 years I can attest to the validity of this saying. G.
I can't help much with reducing RPMs...I actually went to a 49 tooth rear which raised RPMs by ~500 and I love it, even on the highway. But, you should check the Chain Gang forum, f650.com. They have a very good FAQ and seem to have tried almost every combination possible at some point!
I've got 10k miles on mine, about 3k of that two up with several 400+ mile days. To be fair, I came from a Sportster with a stock seat, so this may not be a fair comparison, but my wife has no complaints. In fact, she mandated that I get the backrest for the Harley, but says she doesn't really feel the need for one on the GS. I also recently purchased the Seat Concepts foam and had it installed (for my benefit). She says she can't tell the difference from stock.
Enjoyed my 2011 GS so much that I bought my son a 2010 GS as well. Have ventured out on Wombeyan Caves Road and some of the side tracks already. Very muddy and tricky with the stock tyres. Looking to get some better dual tyres soon for weekend away at Yerranderie. Any suggestions?
look at the mitas eo-7 tyres for a all rounder but there will be lots of personal tyre preferences posted up
I love the Mefo Explorers as well!! the tread is just right for off road and still nice to do 80 on the highway with no wobble. I actually just came back from a trip to maine on them. bunch of singletrack and 80 mph on the highway. check twistedthrottle.com
