DR750 & DR800 owners thread

Who needs the extra weight .

Well the hole is already there in the right hand main crank case.

Is there some trix for higher ground clearance on the Dr800?

First, and cheapest: improved springs, front and rear.
More expensive: Other front forks and rear shock/sping.

Ok, i have an old Honda Cr250front, I think its from an -91.
I had a cr250-03 fork on my AfricaTwin and that worked wery well.
Byt how about the rear shock? Any modell that fits from another bike?

I have a question, i think somebody has already asked it, but i couldn't find it. So, does the SR42 gas tank fit SR43 ? The welder managed to blow up my tank. Fine season start for me.
Edit: If anyone has SR43 gas tank for sale, i would like to buy it. I'll pay the shipping.

42 tank is the same as the 41.

43 tank is much different. 42/41 do not fit onto the 43 without a lot of other changes (bodywork etc)

There were 2 43 tanks on eBay.de a week or so ago. The good thing is all 43 tanks are alike and do not have to be color matched to the bike since the bodywork goes over the entire tank.

I'd find another welder preferably one without a death wish.

Both from ebay didn't want to send outside of their country. Or else i would have bought one.

have you tried German and French sources? We're on the same continent, so it should be easier and less expensive to ship a tank to you.
Germany and France are the countries where most of the Bigs were sold. So there's a lot of stuff around in both our countries. Possibly it makes sense to have a look at German second-hand-parts-dealers. Let me know if you need a helping hand for translation ... my French has fallen asleep, so it's, by far, not as good as my English.

well i'm out of action until a set of brushes turn up at beard brothers. they have my new armature but no brushes yet.:huh it's times like these that a kickstarter would be handy.
i think there were only two kickstarter kits on bikes in oz and these were on safari bikes. one of which is TonyT's bike.

Bro have you tried searching for DR 750 tanks? The Sr 41 uses the same tanks as the DR 750.\

Another idea is to get a 30L Safari tank. Expensive, but do-able.

I have DR800.. SR43

Then no point getting the DR750 tank. It might not fit.

and i have another question, about an exhaust system, I want to get my bike a bit louder, but with my salary i cant afford those hessler fancy double exhaust system. So I would need a little cheaper way to do it. It has to have double mufflers as original, And it has to look good.
still haven't got a gas tank, so i'm thinking a bit tuning up my beauty.

Now that my SR42/800S is running well, I'm slowing making it look better as well. The beak is OK, but a bit ratty. It obviously was in some form of accident and was repaired with a steel patch and nuts and bolts. I may have a line on a 1987 or 1988 DR750 that is being wrecked. DO you think the beak will fit? Colour/paint is not an issue, I can repaint no problem?

yeah Shane, she'll fit. the only real difference between the 41 and 42 is the longer stroke and rear disc brake. the bike didn't lose it's rugged good looks until the SR43

Looks like my rear shock is done. Bike sags. Appears the preload has been tightened down with not much more room to stiffen it up. So if you changed your shock, what did you go with? Source? DR750 1988. Original shock is installed. Thanks everyone.

Sounds like your spring is done....not the shock

Although, if the spring is that bad there's likely not much damping going on in the shock proper.

For replacement, I like Wilburs. Standard shocks are usually rubbish.

They are all expensive buy once you've done it you'll find it's money very well spent
