I'm about ready to go for my first set of dirt tires on my 800. I was kinda liking the feedback from the k60 rear, tkc80 front. How does the perelli stack against the tkc front. I mainly use my bike for highway and around town, however I ride dirt a few times a week, and I am really feeling the lack of offroad performance that the stock tires offer. Ryan
The Pirelli Scorpion Rally 90/90-21 front has a considerably more aggressive tread pattern than a TKC80 90/90-21 front. This will equate to better handling in the dirt and gravel, at the cost of decreased road performance. Scorpion Rally 90/90-21: TKC80 90/90-21:
The TKC's would serve you well. I run them quite agressively Offroad in rough conditions, and they've performed great.....while still being nice on pavement. They just wear fast.....as most "available" tires seem to do. Wish I could get a Mefo in 140-150 x 17. The Rally looks promising, but no reason to put off and wait for it. Spoon on some TKC's now and go get dirty! HF
Wikipedia: Heidenau, an insidious Internet virus posing as a tire advertisement. Often using pictures of a non existent tire and reference to a source where they can be purchased. If left unchecked it will migrate to legitimate tire threads and cause confusion among potential buyers.
I have had a combination of a front TKC80 and a rear K60 140/80/17 for over 4,000 kilometres now and to be honest its the best combination I have had on the bike. Also had 150 K60, 150 TKC80, front K60 (don't like it!) and front Dunlop 606 (bit noisy on the road ... overall the TKC is better). I like the all round abilities of the bike with this combo ... really good on gravel, pretty good off road. On bitumen the rear does feel a bit funny, but nothing to get too worried about. The best bit is that so far I have never had a moment where something scary has happened for no apparent reason ... I have had sudden tank slappers on clay from the front K60 and the 150 rear would suddenly let go big time off road without warning every now and then. So far the front TKC has been great and the rear 140 K60 only lets go when you want or expect it to. Of course this is a personal choice and preference and your individual conditions and riding style may cause differences in perceived performance! ie - YMMV !
Pssst, Bayner, you're gonna get in trouble for bringing the E-09 into this...this...Scorpion Rally celebration thread! It'll be detention when Ms Griz finds out. Instead of writing lines, I think you should post some more Googled images of the tire in question. ...now where's the sarcastic emoticon....
oserYou are so cunning and hilarious Batron. You're so amazing with your troll skills. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet) "In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[3" Sounds a lot like you. See, the thing about it is, I like to talk about motorcycles and things motorcycle-related on this motorcycle forum, instead of coming on here only to dick-swing and prove my schoolyard superiority like some people. ...now where's that sarcastic emoticon?...
Lighten up Griz, the world can be a happy place if you let it, not everyone is out to get you. It was a light-hearted jab at this thread going off-topic consistently, as new tires are brought into the comparison, and your attempts at trying to keep it on point. If you think there's any more to it, I'm afraid there isn't - but I don't have an internet reference for you. Over and out.
The plastic tube under the Victorian (?) number plate - That will be an Australian annual registration label holder :)
No, it's NSW in a personalised colour. Only NSW use the AAA-NN format, plus you can see the letter "N" at the top right there.
Of our six States, four of them (and one or maybe both of the Territories) use stickers to indicate currency of registration. In a car you stick it to the windscreen, on a bike it's meant to be displayed "adjacent to the licence plate". It has a printout of the vehicle details - VIN, GVM, make/model/colour, licence expiry date. They're colour-coded - registrations that expire in 2010, for example, are on green stickers and in 2011 are on orange. Since these things are largely redundant in the days of character-recognising cameras, Western Australia and South Australia no longer use them. I'm sure the others will phase them out soon. You can see my green label in this old pic of my bike, fixed only semi-legally depending on your interpretation of "adjacent".
Looks like we're still waiting on the 150 here in the States. I hope Pirelli doesn't pull a Heidenau on this one.
I went ahead and got the front tire, but I haven't mounted it up yet. It sure is a good looking tire. I'm using a TKC right now, and I'm hoping the Rally has a little more bite in the loose stuff. I did notice that the 17" rear is 30 bucks more than it's 18" counterpart. Those tire companies sure have our number don't they?!
Hell yeah they have our number. Agreed. I'm hoping the 150 comes Stateside by mid-Summer. We'll see. It's a great tire. They do hook up better than TKC's, and apparently last just as long. My buddy has a set on his DRZ and likes 'em.
