Baja Team 6 - The Incursion

Great ride guys, thanks, it got me thinking about my old friend Gregg so I e-mailed him to get him to look at your RR, well he e-mailed back and he is in my area, staying in Carp. So since I'm just over the hill in Ojai we willl hook up in the next couple of days, thanks, it's a small world. I asked if he remembered you guys, he said you were hilarious, Gregg or in mex Gregorio

Small world, I am in Carp also! I hope gregg isn't stalking me? :huh

We laughed we cried, and had a few (20 is the limit) cervezas.

Good guy, and has the "top ten list" for the best places to surf in Baja.

Unfortunately he cannot reveal all of the list....

Same routine, get up early, pack up our camping gear and head over to breakfast.

I know what you're thinking, French toast in Mexico?, well, I bet a few Mexicans have wondered, French toast in the USA? And actually, if you ask a frenchman about French toast he’d probably say “What’s that?”.

At this point we are backtracking and just making time to get to the border.

Now you have to use your imagination a little in the next picture. There was a junked passenger plane along the side of the highway. It looked familiar and I realized it was the plane they crashed into the desert in Mexico as seen in a recent National Geographic/Discovery channel program. Its about 100 feet behind me here.

All very uneventful. Split lanes and get through the border in no time. Only two lanes at Algodones but things move quickly. Big line of retirees on the sidewalk returning back to Arizona after getting their cheap prescriptions, dental and medical work done.

Say goodbyes at the border and we’re off on the home stretch, at least for the Yuma boys. Lee is off to Casa Grande and I go to Mike’s to get my bike loaded back on the truck. The final humiliation was when I went to get my truck. Mike said to take the trail between the trailers and that would take me to where I parked my truck in the back lot. Here is where I ended up.

I guess I had taken the wrong path and was wondering about in the desert. Luckily I had my SPOT in my pocket so I felt a little reassured (I refrained from hitting the SOS button). I found a bank I could climb to get out of the arroyo I was trapped by and located my truck.

Pictures of hills never look as steep as they are in real life, but I scrambled up the hill and was safe.

Jump on the highway and blaze for home, another 380 miles. Cool sand dunes.

LA is same mess of traffic. Stop and go traffic. At one point I hear some screeching and a car rear ends the car to the right of me. A few minutes later, same screeching, but this time the car to the left of me gets nailed. I hate LA traffic. Make it home by 9:00 at night and still have 8 days left in my vacation!

No problem, a little Christmas cheer. And it made a good 'Hi Visibility' reflector as it shook in the wind! I hope it adorns your Christmas tree?

Yes Excellent. Thank's for posting that up and yes it is cold.. about 10 right now and -1 this morning, etc, etc. I sure would have enjoyed hanging along with you guys. Those pictures brought back some fond memories. I need get back down there again.

Nice report bro - stumbled upon it as I ponder doing Baja solo... No F650 for the trip, eh? Was the idea to stay as light as possible? You see any issues with me rolling with the jesse bags? Multiple stream crossings? I've still gotta ponder this idea, but it seems like it's a recurring bucket list item...

Hi Jon! The idea was to be able to pick up my bike! Didn't have too on this trip, no tip overs. Not much water in Baja, we had no crossings, if raining there might be some streams running???

Jesse bags are fine, just don't crash. If you do go down, soft is much more forgiving. You can make the trip as easy or technical as you want. All pavement, mix it up, or heavy on the dirt (sand actually). We didn't have much sand, but its best to know a little about sand BEFORE you get into it.

No security problems, very light traffic, nice roads (better than California), nice people.

Makes me 'homesick' for Mx........glad u guys had fun.

Ya, it kinda gets in your blood. Going back in a couple weeks (copper canyon).
