Went for s short spur of the moment ride today. Did a loop out of Brisbane down over the border into NSW via the Lions Rd then through the Border Ranges National Park and Mebbin National Park back into Qld via Tyalgum and Numinbah.

Had to put up with the cruise down the tar to Rathdowney where I turned off to Running Creek Rd which crosses the creek about half a dozen times. It’s all bitumen but a scenic sort of ride.

The road changes to the Lions Rd a bit further on for the run over the border. Starts off through open farm country but changes to almost rain forest once you cross the border.

Further on I turned off onto Grady’s Creek Rd which is a short good dirt road that parallels the Lions Rd for a few K’s with a couple of creek crossings along the way. The crossings are all concrete causeways unfortuinately.

I then turned onto the main part of the dirt to head up into the Border Ranges National Park stopping at Sheepstation Creek campground for a short break.

Further on there is a lookout with views towards Mt Warning and Murwillumbah

There’s a nice little picnic area at Bar Mountain

From there I headed across to Mebbin National Park which isn’t far away.

All the road through the national parks were very good gravel with nothing difficult.

Stopped for a break at the camping area in Mebbin NP.

From there it was only a short run into Tyalgum and back onto the tar for the run home. All up about 360k for the round trip.:D
