After 5 months of scrounging up old obsolete parts and scrapping rust off, my "Old School" shorttracker project is done! The number plates with my novice number from 1975 arrived and I fabbed up some brackets to mount them.
Next stop, shorttrack races at Spokane County Fairgrounds on August 21.
I am going to ride practice, but not sure if I can get serious enough to race.
At least I will have some pictures of the bike on a track. More pics after the 21st.

I've been waiting for this and it does not disappoint. Your old school short tracker sure looks nice. :thumb

Please remind us before the 21st about the races so maybe a few of us can show up.

Found this on craigslist while searching "Flat Track"....

I'm taking my sister to the Spokane air terminal early Friday.
I may just load the bike and do the Friday practice in Benton City.
If all goes well, I may camp and race on Saturday.
Does anyone know anything about this track??
Is it worth the drive??

Five days and counting!
Never been to the Fairgrounds, but from the photo on their website, looks to be 1/4 mile or so.

I'll be entering in the "Vintage Am" class for twin shock bikes earlier than 1980. Might be my best chance to do good. Might be some other old fools on relics.
It's been 35 years since I've ridden on a oval track!!

Got up this morning with all kinds of positive energy... Going to fill the tank with a fresh mix of race gas and Blendzall. Gas cap comes off slick as a whistle and I see this. Clean as much off as I could (inside and out) and I have a real good fuel filter, so.... We'll see what happens

ValleyRider did well with his first race in 35 years and I loved the big shit eatin' grin he had on his face as he went around the track. Oh yeah, and the wheelie crossing the finish line was pretty cool too:clap

The bike looks even better in person than it does in the pictures. :thumb

ValleyRider’s bike even looks better in real life than in pictures. The pretty girl in the background is his daughter and part of his fan club. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

ValleyRider, the man himself. Notice he’s wearing the vintage boots and hot shoe but I wonder why he’s not wearing his vintage riding pants and shirt too. :scratch :lol3 We caught up with him just as he was returning from the concessions – He needed to fuel himself. :thumb

Lining up for the qualifiers – Number 186 is the person we’re cheering for.:wings

And he’s off to a good start.

Unfortunately I didn’t get pics of the ride across the finish line or the nice little wheelie ValleyRider did as he finished. Dang!

It was a good time.
