This will be my first get-together with the other personalities of dubious origin who post here. Will leave Friday after work and might be able to make it up to the camp before dark. Probably will be two of us arriving separately. Please add us to the headcount. We'll have 2 tents.

cool, I'll load up on some wood.

I'm going to head out sometime early on Friday afternoon and get up there around the same time you are.

Anyone know the conditions of Soda Lake road? I'll be trucking my bike in on my tilt-a-hitch. I have about 7 inch of clearance then I start scrapping pavement... or dirt rather... depending :norton

If I remember right soda lake road is paved... but I could be wrong.

You could consider going through Taft on Hwy 33 to 58, and come into Soday Lake road From Hyy 58 on the North End of the National Monument. That road is all paved to the turnoff to Selby Camp. then you only have a couple of miles to do on dirt, up to the campground.

    Out. :cry
The rear tranny seal on the GS has decided to start leaking. I can't afford to fix it until next month, so I'm limited to on-road stuff on the RT. Still going to WARPED, though.

That should be ok then. Its big ruts and washed out roads that the journey more difficult.

I thought about that too. a bit longer trip but i wouldn't have to worry about it. what I need is to put some air shocks on my truck so I don't have to worry about any of this :) but that's another day.

I rode much of Soda Lake Road yesterday. The section from Traver's Ranch to the Washburn Ranch gate at Panorama Road was pretty serious washboard. Cattle on the road too along that stretch to watch out for if you are coming in after dark. Just take your time through there.

All of the County roads have been graded and are good but dusty, due to the high volume of traffic and low volume of rain.

Hurricane/Crocker Springs Road to Fellows is in better shape than when the group rode it last fall. The middle section of Elkhorn Road (from Cross-Over to Hurricane/Crocker Springs) was smooth and an absolute hoot! I will get a look at the Elkhorn Grade if the opportunity presents itself. (But who cares, that climb is better when it is rough.):deal

I am well and looking forward to another ride. I wish you were going to be able to join us this time. The weather should be great.:clap

You may be interested in helping me get some ADVriders out here for a September event. Saturday, September 27th, 2008 is Public Lands Day and the BLM is tentatively planning on installing an irrigation system at Selby Campground to help grow some shade trees. They will be looking for volunteer groups to help work on this project. It seems like a good way for the ADVrider.com lads to help out. There would still be plenty of time for Saturday afternoon and Sunday rides. What do you think?

We need a really cool design. :clap

The Sierra Club dudes that work on fence removal from former cattle pastures (so the elk and pronghorn can move around easier) have come up this cool patch design shown below for their volunteers.

Of course, Adventure riders with a "cutting fences logo" might give people the wrong idea.:lol3

My apologies for the previous hijack. :deal

    Back on Topic.

Do we have a starting time for a Saturday ride? I have a friend riding over from Tehachapi and we need to know when we should arrive at Selby to meet everyone. Maybe we could meet up with anyone motel-ing it in Taft and then head for Selby Camp.

And... is anyone planning on gasoline and lunch in Taft on Saturday? It makes a nice loop, but it would require a little pavement.
