    Is that 5000 psi?

All I know, when they set it to full power, the pipe that releases the air gets frozen all around

    Almost. About 4800 PSI.

Nope, but I bet it didn't sound good when it happened.

I think that I have seen this picture before and the bent conrod is actually a casting / forging / manufacturing error.
If it isn't, what does the cyclinder block look like!? :huh

if it were a mfg error, then why is it in an assembly? Seems it would have been tossed upon the faulty forming, rather than bolted up to a rod cap and bearing cage.

I know nothing of the manufacturing techniques for engine components of this scale. Maybe that's the jig used to hold the rod for forming?

Look at the broken rod bolt. That was a running failure, not a mfg error. I have a rod and piston out of my sprint car engine that looks sort of like like that (the rod bolt).

I have a few pieces that can go into that one:cry

Maybe we just need a new thread "engine went boom", "that was a running engine". Something like that.

These are very rare engines today, The owner told me that the term " Dropping a cylinder" came from these. The engines would have entire cylinder and heads fall off in flight :huh

This owner came up with a system to help prevent the cylinders jugs from cracking at the base.

After seeing this picture, I understand how that compound connecting rod works :nod

So, is this a common failure in supersized engines ?
