Coming from a 2007 kawi KLX350. I've had it almost five years and was time to try somehing different. I sold the kawi tonight to my best buddy and good riding buddy, so she is not gone!! I picked up this guy: It rips!!! So light too compared to my KLX. 218lbs dry. Six speed, fresh top end. It looks like it was hardly ridden. Street plate, should be fun Can't wait to try it in the woods - I need to get proper tires on it!!!! Will be doing short road stints to get to the forest 5-25 miles. Hope it holds up!! My firt two stroke since a YZ125 i had years ago. I need to find the manual, I really know nothing about it. Haha. I have a lot of reading to do!! I don't even know what is best oil and what the ratio is.. I plan on keeping enough for a gallon or two in my backpack.. I'd like to get a larger fuel tank too if possible. Not sure how big the aftermarket is on these bikes, I just rode it and fell in love with it! haha
Nice, 200 or 125? Check Ebay for larger tanks off of larger enduro models, something's bound to fit it.
It's a 2000 200EXC. IT's minty fresh and looks like it was never taken off road. That will change soon!!!
Baja Designs makes a auxiliary tank that replaces the left side panel. Holds about 1.5 gal. if I remember right. Had one on my 380. You would have to see if it will fit the 200. Have fun.
Good job. Obviously, great minds think alike. Compared to my 640 it feels like a mountain bike. A very, very quick mountain bike. For the owners and shop manuals I went on eBay and bought the CD version. It isn't as convenient as a print manual but it was dirt cheap.
Thanks for the tip on the ebay manual, will order one.. Just went out for an hour ride.. On road, and a logging road through the forest (tires no good off road!) GOT DAMN I SAY GOT DAMN! that bike is so much fun!!!! It's like a high strung turbo motor - I fuckin love it.. CAn't wait to get some proper tires on it!!!!! How do you carry oil when out and you know you'll need a fill up at some point? I was going to try to find a small plastic container that can hold what's needed for two gallons of fuel.. I'm sure I can find something, but I'm also sure others have done this already and probably have the perfect thing for it!
They aren't just 40% lighter than your DR650, they make about the same or maybe more rear wheel horsepower. But they are race bikes. So it ain't all puppies and rainbows. Well, actually it is on the trail. But as a dual sport they vibrate worse and suck more fuel than your DR650. Plus highway riding is....ummm.....less than ideal. But they are a riot on low speed asphalt. About carrying the oil, most of the smaller bottles you buy are marked in ounces. So unless you are finicky about exact mixtures just buy a small bottle or two to carry (in a ziplock bag) with your tools and know how many ounces per gallon to use. Where you put those tools and oil is a whole 'nother question. There just isn't much to these things for carrying enduro bags and such. I already lost one fender pack off the back. But that was a good solution. They need so few tools that I may try another one of those but more securely mounted. All I carry is the stock slightly augmented tool roll, a front tube, tire iron, CO2 and a few ounces of oil. All of that fit in a front fender pack before it went AWOL. A backpack is probably the best idea. I just hate wearing them.
Well yesterday was such a nice day, and I got my Trakmasters installed - so I decided to leave work at 12 and go riding THis was my first off road ride in eight months.. On Labor day last year I got bucked off my bike and flung head first (well thumb first I guess) into a tree.. My thumb exploded and I had to get surgery to reattach the tendons. So, I figured to start my season I should head to the exact spot that ended my season, and piss on that tree: After that was taken care of, I enjoyed the trails by myself.. All my riding buddies were too responsible to leave work and go riding! hahaha The dirt was soft, and the trails were clean... It was awesome. The bike performed flawlessly.. I rode it 20 miles on backroads to get to the forest. Did maybe 10 miles offroad, and another 20 home and I still had almost half a tank of gas.. I have a small ryobi two stroke oil container that I filled with good oil that will mix about 1.8gl or so.. I will just keep that in my backpack.. I can't see needing more than that on a day of riding seeing how many miles I got to a half tank. I do want to gear it a bit taller though. I found myself in third gear on most of the single track as 1st and 2nd are rediculously quick.. I'm thinking up a tooth in the front and down two in the back? Or maybe just start with one extra up front and see how that does. I need to count and see what's on there now as I'm not sure. Also I noticed gear oil leaking from the case somewhere Gotta pull the skid plate and figure out what's up with that. Hope it's not deep in the case somewhere. The bike is a complete animal on the trails. I love it.. Riding down low in the gear it chugs pretty good.. Feels like a tame four stroke down low, then the pipe hits and I just scream and hold on. hahahaaa Love it.
Probably the countershaft seal leaking, common fix and easy to do. New bushing/o-ring/seal and its good to go. A bigger tank from a 2000 era 250/300/200/125 should fit,KTM is very modular and many parts fit on many different models. I had a new 2001 200MXC and thrashed it for 4 years to no avail, couldnt break it.
Others have said the same thing about the sprocket seal.. I ordered a couple of those and the Oring, and a bushing.. Hopefully that's it! Also ordered a Trailtech Vapor setup - should be nice.
