finally got a working front break (thanks Hun!) - and I am good to go again... The weekend started out with making Vegan Bavarian Potato Salad - which is an oxymoron by itself - and all I needed to do is deliver it to some camp-side in the Pisgah Nat. forest. Picked a nice route with a mix of twistiest and gravel.... Downtown Marshall Sandy Mush :eek1 looking towards Willow Creak top of Willow Creek Went up 276 to the Parkway, but I didn't take any pics (didn't want the pirates I left behind to catch up with me again ) somewhere around 475B "look mom - no hands" 3 hrs later, I made it! Life is good Dean picked the perfect camp-side and after a few adult beverages, very interesting conversations, all of us ended up skinny-dipping at the waterfall. If you look closely you actually see the waterfall in the background. What a great night and company!!!! Happy Birthday Julia!!!!
Willow Creek's a hoot of a road, ain't it? Even paved. I hadn't been that way to Canton in a long time til a few weeks ago. That's when I discovered NCDOT had marked off yet another dirt road on their "pave 'em all" list. The community still looks like about 1963 to me, though. Thanks for the pics!
Day 2 was a blast as well!!! back to the waterfall followed by Habanero Hash-browns Went on a nice little loop we found Fancy - to fast for focus got stuck on a tree - as usual. I do have a history with trees Allen was a bit smarter, he just moved the tree fuel stop (lets just say Allan didn't plan on going off-roading) the loop was about 1 hrs and well worth it and however didn't come, missed out big time! Afterwards we split and I took 215 and 209 back (you can't get wrong with 209 - ever!) Baltimore Branch Big Pine
sorry, most of the camp pics didn't turn out well Hope you didn't get socked to much on 251 Thanks for the invite again!
I had a nice wet ride most of the way, but, visibility was fine, and the boots stayed dry. Nikwax is the best stuff ever! Thanks for helping make the weekend a big success!
Great pics Cuttle! Fantastic weekend - thanks to Julia and Dean for being great hosts, and Happy Birthday Julia! Saturday night gettin' nekked at the falls and swimming in the cool water under the blanket of stars, going behind the waterfall... is one of those memories I hope to re-live over and over again...simply amazing! The food was great...and campfire conversation was, errr...yes, interesting! Super big to Joseph, day-um, what a woods redemption that was! The man was super-prepared AND, can ride his arse off (even while sporting 50/50's)! Can't wait to do this again soon! Whoot!
Bustour!!!! or just another day in the woods headed over to Hurricane Creek this morning - I even made it on time and arrived first (that's a first ) the usual suspects showed up shortly afterwards: I didn't get any pics of the rocky parts - to busy riding and trying to catch up with the kids... obligatory Bus stop: somebody still believes that protection is for old folks.... and the short bus creeks were low :huh (but the trail was slick) I had to get back right afterwards, so I left the kids to play some more in the woods and headed back over the hill - prepping for 209 along Meadow Fork 209 that's it, a quick 100 miles round-trip - still got me in the dog house for going riding instead of helping my hubby going to host Radioman tomorrow for a few days, maybe I get some more riding in....
yup, never seen them as low... the top part with the massive rut is still pretty slippery though, the rest is just like always.
Cuttle, This is a great RR! My wife, Suzanne, and I are in the process of moving to Asheville and we can't wait to start riding down there. Please keep this coming so we can get some more ideas. Those graffiti rocks looking over the valley look like Elk Mountain Road ... yes? (Our new house is about 5 miles away off Beaverdam.) Richard
Hi Richard, Welcome to the neighborhood! Yes, the rocks are on Elk Mt. Road - fun road and just recently got repaved . Once you move down here just come to the Wedge on Wednesday night (sometime between 6 and 8) and you'll meet the AVL crew - the best way to hook up for rides.
Bad day at the office? There is a cure for that! Ingredients: Elk Mt. Road, than a a bit of BRP take a breather at Craggy Gardens: add some Stoney Fork Road and wash it all down with some Merlot All better now... now, where's the cure for "wore the wrong panties when going on a ride"???
