THE BIGWHEEL THREAD!!! Yamaha BW350, BW200

Here is a link to the 12x8 4+4 rims from DWT I referenced earlier. The dealer said they could order 12x10 5+5 in the same wheel. These are Rhino pattern 4/110. It was unclear whether these were "blue" or "red" label DWT wheels.

DWT also has a 10x10 5+5 with the "wrong" bolt hole pattern. They have told two of us that they could do a run with the 4/125 pattern if the order was for 24 units. The price was around $105 each (before shipping). The rep I spoke with mentioned that they had made them in the past as Six Pepper mentioned.

My question has to do with the rim width. If the guidelines are for the tire to be 2 to 4 inches wider than the rim, then it seems to me that an 8 inch wide rim would be better since it could handle everything up to a 12 wide tire, and still be "right" for an 11 or even a 10 wide tire.

Sure would be nice to just convince DWT to do a run. I can call them back on Monday and get more details, unless someone with more technical knowledge would like to make the contact.

Cliff, the Carlisle 489 comes in the 24x11-12 and 23x10-12. I think several people are running Carlisle 489s as BW fronts in 25x8-12.

I have a 24x11-10 tire that is enroute to me right now that will be mounted on the Shercoman-modded wheel. I will post the results as soon as possible. The ten inch wheel may be the cure, given the realistic budget options that most face.

What tire did you order?

Carlisle gives rim widths for its AT489 tires in the Carlisle catalog. In practice, how much wiggle room does one have with these types of tires with respect to tire width/rim with matching? Several sources suggest the tire be 2 to 4 inches wider than the rim. However, Carlisle's catalog tables indicate rim widths are more like 1 to 2 inches wider.

Update: Carlisle customer service rep actually said up or down 2 inches from their catalog suggested rim size will work. So, our 1 inch variations should be just fine.

I considered a lot of the UTV tires until I started comparing their weights. Some of them are 7 ply rated and weigh over 30lbs!!!! In the end, I ordered a Duro HF243. It is pretty old school, but it is only a two ply and weighs less than 16lbs. I didn't want to put a heavy tire on that aluminum rim. I had a 25x12-9 in the shop, so I studded it and was petty happy with the results. The tire I ordered is a 24x11-10. It is coming via USPS, so I'll probably see it in a few months when the sled dog teams make it through the pass.

That is a pic of the 25x12-9.

For the front, I ordered a couple of Carlisle AT489 X/Ls. I think the AT489 IIs would be a great choice but the knobs on the shoulders wouldn't readily handle being studded. The X/Ls have a 3/4" deep lug and should accept a longer stud. I'll get them up and running as soon as the Pony Express arrives.

My God, i just started wiring the BigMower and well it is ridiculous I can honestly say wiring up an Ls1 is simpler

We now also have a Douglas Red Label 12x8 4+4 wheel in process of modification (4/125 hole redrill) for use with a Carlisle AT489 24x11-12 on the rear.

A customer service rep at Carlisle verified that particular fitment. (That is, 11 wide tire on 8 inch wide rim).

Jaubuchon- I cant help but see BW80 tires on the front of that rig..
Is it a racer or will you put a mowing deck under it ??

I would use bw80 wheels but the front only takes 5/8ths shaft wheelbarrow lawnmower wheels. It will be a racer and a swap meet crawler

If Rorich is out there and still plating his bike in Germany I just noticed 2 brands of tires that are DOT rated for the BW sizes that I had not seen before.
Would work with either the 10 or 12 inch rims being discussed.
Innova tires - 24x11x10, 25x10x12 and 25x8x12 avalible. Racer firm model.
Im tempted to set up a pair for grins on the plated BW as that is the only reason the po-po can give me grief.
Im thinkin' the BW would look a little batman bikish with a smooth set of tires that big....

Hey guys could use your help in this, when we bought the gf's BW200 the kick start was not attached (they just did the rolling start) but I'm wanting to get the kick start working again.

I ordered the new kick start gear and using a copy of the factory service manual but it doesn't give much detail on the install.

Here are pictures of how I have it in the case right now, the big fin on the kickstart shaft I have facing straight up.

Full assembly; on the shaft from inner to outer is: kicker gear clip, kicker gear, large washer, spring, the spacer with the inner indent onto the inner spring tubing, washer with the 2 tabs, washer, and finally the oring piece.

That cable in the last pic is for the auto decomp. Think it attaches outside the case kind of underneath where the kicker comes out of the case. Fits on a shaft and is held in with a 10 mm bolt.

With a better understanding of the options, I again spoke with DWT. The possible custom .190 wheels available depends on the wheel halves they already make. Each wheel needs a nose half and a bell half.

10 inch diameter: In a Red Label .190 style wheel, they only have a 5 inch nose, so they could make a custom 5+5, but it would be made of two noses, so wouldn't have a deep side as needed for a brake. (They do have the A5 style wheel in the required combo less hole pattern.)

12 inch diameter: In a Red Label .190 syle wheel, They currently make a 12x8, 4+4 in the standard 110, 115, 136, and 156 hole patterns which is widely available. They could make a 12x10, 5+5 since they have both the 5 inch nose and the 5 inch bell. They could punch the 4/125 hole pattern and note that the center hole would be 4.187 inches.

The price on the Red Label .190 12x10, 5+5, 4/125 would be $183.95 per unit, plus a $10 customization charge. Shipping is extra, and they charge a $10 drop ship charge, but could send the wheels out individually. The minimum build is 24 wheels (two dozen) and the payment must be made in full up front.

Those 12x10 wheels would be a nice option, but I think this is getting outside the price range that would work for the BWs.

Which model IMS foot pegs are those? Do the BW200 and BW350 have the same foot peg mounting hole patterns? (I thought I saw an earlier discussion involving the failure with the earlier pegs, but I can't find it now.)

The pegs are from IMS's Super Stock series for a TW 200. I don't think that the pegs will interchange between a 200 and a 350 (not sure though). Although I cannot find it now, I think IMS used to have a listing on their website for BW 200 pegs, but not for a 350.
