Finally a Car That Wont Die! New Passat

They call it "Night Blue". I get it this Thursday night, I'll post a pic or two.

I hope you don't get bit by the electrical gremlins that my 11 GTI was plagued with. I purchased it new off of the lot and all was fine until it hit 50k highway miles.

While sitting in a subway parking lot eating lunch one day - the car quit running. It wouldn't restart - or anything. I ended up hauling it to the dealer. They couldn't replicate the problem until they started it up one morning to perform an oil change on it and it quit.

Three months later (after my VW dealer and VW Germany burned the transatlantic lines) I got my car back with a new fuel tank, sender, pump, lines and computer. VW just replaced the whole thing. I traded it in on a jeep about a month later.

Volkswagen makes nice cars but just be aware that all of the fancy gadgetry has its issues. I wish you better luck.

That's the color I wanted but I had to settle on the silver after the Accord died and the 0% for 66 months was expiring the next day (though of course they extend it another week but the silver isn't too bad).

Nice car Jon! I just gave up on Germans cars with the Audi finally breaking my back and spirit. In a fit of rage I went out and just bought a Honda Element and spit on the Audi when I got home.

Well... the Element will make you crazy just trying to change the oil... of course that is probably all you will have to do to it... but crazy none-the-less...

Whoever put the oil filter up on the back-side of the engine above the lower suspension components needs a dope-slap....

My friendly VW dealer (another plug for Chris Farnham) explained to me that if he processed a credit application and ordered a car, that VW would hold the promotional interest rate for quite some time (I want to say something more than a month?)

It can't be any worse than changing the alternator on the Audi!

I thought they were all AWD? Anyway mine is. Lots of room for the dogs and my other crap and super simple setting it up to pull the Dirt Bike trailer. The wiring harness was a slam dunk, pull a panel and just plug it in an existing connector. The hitch practically installed itself, no drilling needed at all, Just a bolt on operation.
I'm hoping I can fit the snows I have for the Audi on it too. Blizzaks that are 205/55-16. The Honda has 215/70-16 generic tires.

But it is only like 8 or 10 bolts & unclipping a couple sensors to get to that stage....

Thank G-d I have an extended warranty on this thing, I've heard enough VW/Audi horror stories and looking at that they are all probably true.

Probably the same dimwit that designed the oil-filter placement on the original 80's Ford Escort...

This Passat is a seriously nice car...I'm lovin' it.

How do you like the DSG with that car/engine combo??? I kind of like the lag between gears with my manual so you feel the million torques on each shift.....

Does it make for smoother acceleration??

Selling the Passat this past fall was one of the great joys of my life. Spent the next week walking around with a silly smirk, while singing "Happy Trails to you" under my breath. Fuck VW now and forever. If they dropped a free new VW product in my driveway, it would be on Craigslist as soon as I had the title in hand. It wouldn't even gain an additional 1/10 on the odometer, as the only reason to even start the thing would be to move it out of the way. In case I forgot to mention, FUCK VW, and for all of you fools that get all drooly over their latest pieces of shit, you deserve the fate that awaits. Little like falling in love with a psyco who did time for stabbing their ex, then being suprised when you end up with a knife in you. "Car of the year" until it's 4-5 years old, spending lots of time on the roll back, and generating four figure repair bills on a regular basis............... "But it has such soul, other cars feel like lifeless appliances compared to my new VW" BWAAAAAAAAAHAAAA. The dark side awaits.

BTW, the "Service position" ( for those that lack the guts and skills to rip into one of these fucking nightmares with a scan tool in one hand, and a wrench in the other) is actually facing away from the mechanic, hands firmly gripping ankles. Try to relax while being serviced, there is no crying in German car ownership.
