Nice ride report BA. Some great photos too. I recognize so many of the places, and we even stayed at some of the same hotels. Don't know why you were stressing about the permit for Ha Giang - I told you before you left that you'd get if from the first hotel you stayed at in the province!! :deal

Like you I took great inspiration from Comrade Art in getting the confidence up to do the trip. And what an adventure it was.

Looking forward to the rest of your story....thanks

Thanks. Yeah, the north has spectacular vistas; would like to visit Dien Bien Phu in the future.

Thanks Stan. I don't think I'm the best with photos, but the new iPhone takes great pics and sure helps (although the zoom-ins are a bit blurry)

And yeah - we weren't sweatin' the permit too too much, you know, gotta ham-it-up a tad for the RR here :thumb

The other 'Nam RRs were inspirational to follow and I am hoping mine will be added to the mix too. :bow

Hope you have a fantastic Holiday Season..... Cheers.

Ive just booked flights to Hanoi for October, going on an 11 day trip round the far NE, similar route to you. We are riding Ural sidecar outfits, with Explore Indochina. Did the NW route last year on a solo. Fabulous place, very jealous, and can't wait. Thanks for the write up and pictures:clap

HA, glad you picked up on my Vietnamese currency reference... the jokes were ongoing throughout the trip because of what I had 'in my pocket' at all times :eek1

Next installment of this RR will be in the next few days... :clap

I saw a line-up of those Explore Indochina Urals, they look like nice rigs. That will be a really cool trip and a great way to travel. You plan on writing an RR for it??

I will make a big effort to do a RR. Promise! Last trip we did on solo Urals, weather was unseasonally bad, we were up to the cylinders in mud, and missed a lot of views because of the rain and clouds, and dark, because we were so delayed. Bloody good fun though!!!!!
