Is there anyone in LA that can help me out with a room for a couple weeks?

I'm coming out to LA next week for a new job. I don't really know the area and funds are kind of tight, I'm looking for somewhere to stay for a little bit, until I can get my own place. Anyone have a spare room they'd rent out for a few weeks?

You should put the location of the job. When you say LA do you mean Los Angeles City or somewhere else in the County? I think it's at least 100 miles or more long and at least 70 miles or more wide.

Oh, right, I keep forgetting that. I'll be working in Hawthorne.

Hawthorne is tricky since it's right on the border between some rather decent areas to live and some rather scary ones.

I finally heard back from one of the people I emailed on Craigslist. Looks like the cardboard box under the overpass is a now the back up plan rather than the primary!

Good, teh overpasses are full up here. But at least if you're homeless the weather doesn't suck.

I appreciate it man, the housing out there is going to be an adjustment for sure. And the traffic. I'm looking forward to some more moderate temperatures though. These 30 degree mornings coming home from work are not entirely awesome.

You should enjoy the vast range of topography available to play in.

You'll get used to traffic, at least here in CA you're allowed to split lanes, that helps a lot.

A word of warning with SpaceX. I've got several friends working there and none of them are happy. All are currently working six 12 hour days and one 10 hour day. Ton's of stress & frustration and turn over is rather high. Be careful of what your wish for........

Not true - I worked over 40 years as engineer in major Socal aerospace companies. Did lots of overtime and never had to work for free but engineers got straight time when hourly paid workers got overtime premium. Government contracts don't allow unpaid work because it makes it impossible to track real costs and gives an unfair competitive advantage.

After 6 months of unemployment, I'll work just about any amount of hours. Besides, it's less than I was working deployed to Afghanistan.
