Does anyone know what all changes are being made ot the 2013 model? I thought I found somewhere a while back that the 2013 was going to have a tach. (But I cannot find that source again...) I wasnt able to find any comparable differences on the KTM site. I know it may be hard to gather any info on differences as of yet since the 2013 hasnt released in the US yet... but I figured there would be something out there... maybe I am just not seeing it.
They just did a few signifigant changes for 12...which, like 08, has a tach. Not much changing on the 13's.
well darn... I guess I must have misread whatever it was I was looking at. (or they were just misinformed) so no changes at all then from 12 to 13 that we know of? (color scheme even?) I was going to wait and buy the 13 when it comes out in spring... but if there arent any real changes... I might as well just get the 12 if it's available, yea?
So far there are no known changes for 2013. The 2012's were revised extensively, so I don't see why KTM would make revisions on the 2013's.
Why wouldn't they drop the suspension adjustability like they did on the Duke 690? Lower the price or preserve it. Husky really pissed me off when they did it to the 610. I won't welcome it but the game is being played already so... Start watching out for budget cutting by KTM.
It'd be tough for KTM to justify this given their marketing is centered around "Ready To Race"... Look at the Huskies, then look at the KTM. The Husky TE bike, while excellent, are now more oriented around parent-company BMW's parts bins (not taking a shot at BMWs here, or Huskies). This inherently makes them different machines for a different purpose. Heck, you could even stretch and say the Husky Terra 650 is a starter bike with the intention of guiding you towards the GS BMWs as future purchases. (Terra 650 >> G650 Sertao or F800GS >> GS1200) Both companies have different approaches to marketing and largely different target audiences. I'd be shocked if KTM suddenly started deleting equipment in a bid to make more on the product. More likely they'd just up the price a few hundred dollars and leave it alone. Worked for Kawasaki for over a decade. My 2012 has a tach - they all did. If the OP is thinking of trying for a left over 2012 unit, they'd better hurry. At best, dealers saw one or two of these bikes each last year, so they are hard to find. If they DO make any changes, please, please, please let it be to replace that stupid-ass gas cap...oh, and to install an LED tail light from the factory. I'd have paid a couple hundred more for that up front.
The Australian KTM Site compare shows the 2013 model at 138.5kg compared to 142kg and list the subframe as "Aluminium" compared to 2012 as "Self Supporting Plastic".
No mention of this on the USA site. It seems to imply that there is additional subframe beyond the gas tank? Links? Pics? A fiche would be outstanding.
The marketing on KTM's website for the 2013 doesn't match the owners manual. Both the 2012 and 2013 owners manuals list 313lbs as the weight. I did a stare and compare of the two manuals and all of the specs are identical with the exception of the amount and type of fork oil recommended. 2013 Owners Manual 2012 Owners Manual Needless to say I just brought home a new 2012 today.
Well done! I have no issues at all with my hoon 12 690 with Akra. My only issue is most of my school father mates ride KLR and similar mainly tar! Bit like driving a Ferrari on a road trip with a bunch of Hyundai Excels! I think I need new riding buddies! Who wants to join me!!!!!! Chris
I'll take you up on that offer Chris, I will need you to provide me with airfare for my 690R and myself. One way will be good, cause once I land down under I'll probably want to stay. I'll be waiting with anticipation. Thanks riding buddy!
LOL you could RTW trip it back on your 690!!!! My point is, I don't see the point in riding with KLR type riders who's dirt experience is drifting off the tar whilst perving on a female in a soft top! I need some 690R riding buddies preferably in. The same continent!!!!!! Chris
I saw a new one last week, i have one on order, subframe is tank same as the 2012's. there is a couple of typos in the aus spec site. The only thing I've heard about as different is there's some air box mod, but no detail, one salesman told me a graphic had changed but I couldn't see any difference.
My 2012 690 radiator just failed after 500km? Bit annoying and will be a warranty job no doubt! Chris
