are you an MSF coach? Think I spoke briefly with John at Falls creek falls update last weekend...
I am enjoying mine - need to begin search for an oil leaks source at the swing arm/engine - leaving its mark on rear muffler clamp.
good luck finding a bike. It will show up... I like taking Greyhound to pick up bikes LOL! What a different side of life...

Still have and use my first and only cell phone, it's 9 yrs old now. :lol3

No links, just the above description, took forever googling, to finally come across it again.

    Tech dinosaur... :gerg

But that's why I bought a factory hotrodded Sportster motor, in a GP frame. :rofl

I picked up an 06' Uly last Friday without ever sitting on one. I finally got to ride it last sunday for thirty minutes and loved it. I plan on doing the chain conversion and adding 2' risers. The best part is that I bought it for $3500....

    Congratulations on the new bike.

I have to ask why you would do a chain conversion? Are belts no longer available? The belt is one of the best features. My 07 has 50,000 miles of combined asphalt and dirt. I replaced the factory belt at 20k as preventative maintenance and carry it as a spare. You can change them beside the road. No noise, no lube, no adjusting. If my wife still had her wee strom it would be on it's third set of chain and sprockets.

My only issues have been 2 fans, 1 rocker box gasket (killed one of the fans) and 2 headlight bulbs, 1 ignition switch, brakes and regular maintenance.

From what I have read these bikes have a history of breaking belts. The previous owner has put two belts on in three years. I run high quality (DID) chains on my other HD's in my stable and have had zero problems. Plus I am constantly tinkering (I own a machine shop) and I can change sprockets to get the desired gearing for my style of riding. I have never been stranded by a breaking chain. I look forward to riding this bike.

From the factory, the Uly ran it's belt too tight which made it prone to breaking and straining wheel and transmission output shaft bearings.

Mod the belt tensioner wheel assembly to apply less pressure to the belt (you run a machine shop, you'll figure that part out when you look at it) and your belts will hold up just fine.

Belts are much nicer that chains: Quiet, light, clean, maintenance free, efficient, etc.

I don't have a Uly, but I have a Lightning. It's the one bike I won't get rid of, but for awhile I was thinking of trading it for a Uly.

I just swapped in the lower primary sprocket from an xb9. It's too cold to get a good test ride, but riding it around the block I can tell it is going to be more of a hoot than it already was.

When I went into the dealer in 08 and saw the line of Buells, I fell in love with the style, and after taking one for a test ride I knew I had to have one. I sat on a Uly and thought it was too tall, but now I'd just like to have a bike with saddle bags and top case.

Been riding Buells since '02 and I love 'em. Really fun motorcycles. They've been the most reliable, trouble-free bikes I've owned in 34 years of motorcycling. Minor mod to the belt tensioner (ie: make it run a little looser) and Uly belts will last just fine. More than enough power and outstanding chassis manners coupled with fine amenities and excellent ergos, even for two.

Lifted this pic off the web because it captures the fun and versatility of the Uly. It's hard to believe you're looking at a comfortable, two-up touring bike.

I've been a little surprised at how many people assume the bike is uncomfortable. I had a Strom guy joke to me about how it's a ride-to-starbucks bike, not a touring bike. Had to correct him; I'd ride it anywhere. Of the three bikes I've rode to Sturgis, the Ulysses was the best, especially for zipping around the Buffalo Chip campground.

I am getting ready to ride the Ulysses from Washington State to Texas and back in mid-June - getting the bike in top shape has been a priority. ESPECIALLY that annoying ping from 2500-3000 rolling on throttle that happens at sea level when the bike is hot.

I checked everything I could think of and I refused to throw money at dyno tuning and wideband setups (I'll save that for when I put the 1250 kit on it amirite): TPS, intake seals, static timing, temp sensors. Ran some seafoam through it to clean it out. New spark plugs (previous owner had a heat range too hot) - never want to do that again and I hope the ignition never breaks!

Finally last weekend I think I licked it by retarding the timing by one large mark. Yes! Even with the fan on in traffic I can lug the heck out of it and it won't ping. :clap SUCCESS! :clap

I really love my Buell and I get excited when it's happy.

My 06 Uly was fast reliable and fun. Cure the excess engine heat issue and you'll be happy with it. I now ride Buell's best kep secret. An 08 STT. Super fun and comfortable. No hard luggage tho. Once I added the 'pipe' and a race ECM from EBR, the bike became even better. It ran faster and much cooler. I've ridden Buells since 01 and have owned 11. Waiting for a 1190 water-cooled Uly replacement for hopefully around $15-16k.
