I'm about to switch over from the earlier Facet (I forget the #).
Question: Hows the 40171 treating you ? Any flooding or hydro locking issues with the petcocks left open with this one ?

    +1 this thread...

If it's any consolation, a friend of mine here in Ontario just finished up a weekend training ride down south and his 40171 worked perfect!

I'm planning to install my 40171 in the coming week.

So did Dennis post a ride report?

I have heard only good things of the Facet 171 you speak of - no worries - even with aqualine tanks on.

So far so good. 2,000 miles on it using the 12 gal tanks and it holds the fuel back over night. It has been starting up much better than w/ my old facet. (I think it flooded the motor on start up)

Riding has slowed down around here w/ all the snow/ice, but hopefully it will get better soon. :ricky

I have a Facet pump on my SE. I am not sure of the model. I think that it is the older one that allow for gas to flow when the 950 AVDs were on their side stand. It doesn't do this on the SE.

But I have noticed that my pump runs a lot. Even when it sounds like it is pushing on a serous pressure head.

Do these pump have a pressure swtich? Do they turn off for a while when the carb bowls are full?

I am having battery problems. It would be great if I could figure out if the pump is draining the battery.

Does it really pull down before it turns off?

This quote is from the HOW. It is part of a description of a series of tests done on several Facet fuel pumps for the light/experimental aircraft industry.

Dennis Douglas, Pillar Point Avionics, Inc.:
"In the "OFF" state, however, the differences between the pumps become more obvious. At a 30-inch head pressure, the 40105 and 40106 pumps have a forward "leak" rate or drain rate of about 15 gal/h. These pumps thus flow freely in the forward direction at about one-half the pumping rate.... In the reverse direction, the 40105 and 40106 drain backwards at between 0.05 ga/h to about 0.25 gal/hr, with a mean value over a dozen tests with four different pumps of about 0.1 gal/h. (As a point of reference, 0.1 gal/h is about one drop per second). Compare these numbers to the 40171 pump, which showed no detectable leakage in the "OFF" state in either the forward or reverse directions over several hours."

Couple of 40171,s waiting to replace the 40105s should give me the functionality I wanted originally with electrically switching between front and rear tanks (without having to turn off fuel taps!)
    Cheers

40171's should work good for that use. I have a bunch of them "out there" in daily use on various iterations of multi tank installs. None have failed yet and all are performing as designed.

I swapped my old Facet for a new 40171. It works perfectly. No leaks or hydrolock. The only pain was having to remove the battery to get at the mounting hardware.

This post did nothing to answer my question.
I get this all the time. Guys who respond back with a truck load of irrelevant info so a simple question.
I really don't think that the answer is "See my link to my page of irrelevant info."

My pump is dead and I want to install the Facet 40171 but am having trouble finding it. Can anyone direct me to a definitive online source or local in-stock carrier?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    I use these guys:
    Aircraft Spruce
The pump isn't always in their catalog, but just give 'em a call and they will send the 40171 out. I've always had real good service with these folks. They're big suppliers of the experimental aircraft community.

I just now typed 40171 into their search and it came up ($44.30.)
