If you cant understand the "Spanish", that is Amara, the old southern Indian (Inca) language which is the 1st language in these parts.

Not voodoo. They worship Pachamama here, "mother earth god".

I seem to remember a story from 2012 Dakar, when Toby was exhausted one night with some way to go to the finish. The guys on the sweeper truck wanted to help, but knew he was DQd as soon as the loaded his bike. Then some bright spark fellow competitor who had withdrawn offered to ride Toby's bike for a while, while Toby slept in the back of the truck.
Accepting help from fellow competittors is allowed.
Can someone confirm that that happened?

damn Tupiza looks fairly dry too. The rainy season must not be too bad yet. This part of Bolivia has a Grand Canyon feel to it.

The journos are oblivious to the whole Dakar thing, they still say Coma is in the lead..

Barreda left 4th so Coma - 6 minutes... He's going very fast...

Yes this happened. It happened on Stage 5 this year too where an organization guy apparently rode a bike for 40km in the heat while the rider recuperated in the air conditioned car.

Its pretty amazing isnt it? You would know this having been there as well.

What I found amazing is they built a beautiful airport at Uyuni for this event, installed new a substation nearby, and they have had people cleaning up the town and area these past 4 months in preparation for the Dakar. :deal

The President is a big Dakar nut so I think this has some influence.

This year the "Frites" car co driver also rode a bike some miles while the rider was on the car...
