But, if you're elevated between some trees, maybe a bear will eat you first and leave the meat burritos alone. :evil

Humm, a KTM 990 can make it but not a big GS?

Sounds a bit biased towards orange. I think the ride on either would be friggin miserable and damaging to ones plastic... :1drink

Nope...not Orange biased....don't own one. A 650GS or 800GS would be perfect for this ride, not the 1200's.

By the way....I will throw out a teaser for you 1200 boys, be you a GS/GSA or Super Tenere, etc..... You will see a post coming shortly that will be a big challenge and a similar 7 day ride....led by a GSA. Coming soon!!!!

I'm very interested, but I'm not sure if I want to deal with it on my 950 Adventure. I'm an expert rider, but I don't want to struggle too much (I'm 52 years old with jacked up knees) and hurt myself or my bike. I'm trying to pick up a new 450 or a 500 EXC. If I get one of those, you can count me in!:D

I like my XR650R for true dual sport / off road. While somehow the hard core folks with fat wallets do ride them off road, the GSA is best suited to be used as a street bike and for occasional fire roads in my opinion. I've put 52K on mine so far and will do D2D in AK this summer on it, but it's just tooo big and tall geared for any technical stuff. Never tried Dunlop 606's on it though :1drink

Balls, I was going to talk to you about carpooling as my things came closer together. After getting shipping quotes I'm looking at driving out there.

Will this mean large riding groups, the 4-5 person riding groups really appealed to me.

    No......

For the CAM1k, the ride groups will be 3-5.

For the CAM2k, the ride groups might be larger during the pavement portion, but will whittle down for the dirt portions.

You're not alone. I found and purchased a WR450 yesterday for this trip. I was never going to get my YZ tagged and with the tighter riding I have been doing lately the WR is a better bike. This is a dream trip for me, Only time I have seen the western mountains is in the dead of winter at ski resort towns. I Have always wanted to experience the mountains during the warmer months.

No Sir.....You are in a long line of STOKED FOLKS.....for this ride.

A couple of weeks ago, there were a handful of us that packed out our bikes and rode the Kokopelli, out and back to test the bikes and the gear and ourselves..... It was a phenomenal, three day ride and caused me to only want the CAM to come in a hurry!!!!

This pic of DangerDavis doing a water crossing in the middle of the desert on a loaded bike.....with great teamwork....is a great example of how we will be riding.
