My plan is to enter the Tunisia round of the FIM championship at the beginning of May... basically NPO who organize that round (and the Rally du Maroc) are running a three event 'trophy' series this year, which also includes Egypt...

It is my intention to race those three events on the new bike... not that the Tenere isn't capable of course, only that I'm trying to give myself the best possible advantage by being on a lighter machine - particularly in Tunis (65% sand) and Egypt (100% sand)...

Hee hee - I'd love to do that one too, but can't afford it this year...

But then I might see you in January 2011, you never know x

Have ASO made that announcement yet?!

This is completely new to me, an Italian rally driver told me today he hope to join a new Paris Dakar "Classic", managed by Auriol, which should leave from Paris at the beginning of 2011.... any clue? Can't find anything on the web :huh!

I presume he means the 'Africa Race', that Hubert runs now? This year it started from Portimao (Portugal), but to be honest, with the numbers involved this year, I can't see how it is financially viable to run it again?

Alternatively, what was originally billed as the 'Classic' Dakar (in that it was open to classic [Dakar] vehicles, and ran the original route/stages) is the Heroes-Legend that I did last year - that does start in Paris, and does finish in Dakar... however, it now runs in October, not January (as it did for the first three years)...

Maybe you need to ask this Italian chap for a bit more info?

Fun, I looked at those as well but am committed to go to Mongolia in August for the scenery:D

I'm not sure at this point what my next goal will be, but probably spring '11 before I can drum up the $$ for another one, Heroes looks fun. Planning some other riding this fall which might include a run to SoCal to store the bikes for a segmented long'ish term run to SA.

Silverstone from Jasper is headed to Tunisia too do you know him?

It is certainly a headache for ASO at the moment... (although not as much of headache as the Chileans are suffering of course).

Since we are all sitting around the campfire speculating, I wonder if they could not use some of the stages (and logistics) from their Silk Way rally last year?

For some reason bikes weren't allowed?! - but if that issue could be overcome, then maybe heading east is the way to go?

I was hoping for them to actually do a dakar series here in the states.. but that line (dakar series) of rallyes seem to be on the back burner..

too many problems for Africa this yr.. my bet it will stay one more in SA

come on Mike, you should know that they'd never get the insurance freedom to host an event of that magnitude in the US, anywhere in north america would be tough, except maybe in Nunavut:lol3

Have you recieved anything rallye...? :ear

Their website show's no update/activity since the 2010 event crossed the line in january...?

I share your questionmark on the 2011 viability... the 2009 and 2010 events were pretty meagre start fields (both auto and moto)... makes you wonder if they'll take a third swing?
