Swimming with the bike, a tour on Iceland

Some watercrossings even gave information on how to do the crossing.



Since Sandra didn't want wet boots we had her sandles always ready.



After all the cold water we went for a swim in one of the big natural hot pots.



The people on Iceland like hot dogs for a snack. You get them everywhere.



We still had time for a last tour into the highland and so we headed out in the morning. Sandra said there would be no water today but the guide book said something about a steep climb. Once we left the road we followed a valley that lead us higher and higher towards the highlands.

There was a small creek we had to cross a couple of times but not worth mentioning. Then it became steeper and steeper. The rock became bigger and almost had the size of soccerballs. Then the creek decided to come down our path. The intercom had been quiet for some time already when all of a sudden I heard Sandra say: if you want to you can turn around. Yeah, right. In this situation there was no turning around. The only way was to wrestle the bike all the way up the path.



We finally reached the highest point and then had a smooth ride across the highlands.





After reaching Laugafell we took a route that brought us back to the road in the north.

Beautifull! Keep it coming. I'll be there in August this year for 2 weeks, hope it is going to be as nice as it looks in your report!

There was another waterfall on the way where we stopped to have a look.




One last one from that ride.




It was late when we arrived at the Godafoss waterfall. There was a camping there so we set up our tent and had a good sleep with the water roaring in the distance.

The next morning we took it easy and had breakfast in the sun.



We then carried on heading back to Egilstadir. Our time was almost over and we had to be back in time.

Since we had one day left we did a day trip to the north to Höfn.





Some fish soup for lunch.





And at last we went down to the harbour to wast our last hours.









The next morning Sandra made her way to the airport to fly back home and I went to board the ferry for my long way home.
It was a nice trip and I can really recomend visiting Iceland.

I cann't give you any precise prices but camping on official camp sites is pretty cheap. Especially compared with the hotel prices.
To make it even cheaper you can go "into the wild" and camp there. Lots of nice places.

Well try to get there. It's a wonderful place for a ride.
Sandra was thanked. Yes, she took all the bike pictures as I am the one riding the bike.

I think we did around 5000 km (have to look that up) on Iceland.
The rear tyre was just melting away. The thread was so low on my way home that I hoped the police wouldn't stop me for a control. Not the longest lasting tyre I ever had.
