Air comes in at the left top of the visor . I'm home and am putting the pinlock in now . I wore the C3 a few times this summer . It fit but was hot, I never even took the pinlock outa the box . The lack of ventilation, then, made this my fall/winter helmet . I'll read the directions before sticking my foot in my mouth from here on . Thanks

I use a C3. Love the fit. However, one feature I really find annoying is that the visor
won't stay in a semi-open state, the slightest breeze and it slams shut.

You may want to give them a call as their customer service is great . . . or, rather, that has been my experience. Phil Chapman is a good guy and can probably help you out. His number is 949-215-0893.

    I hope this helps.

The pinlock buttons have 3 settings to adjust the spacing. There's an arrow on the head. Tightest is with the arrows pointing to center, loosest is pointing away from each other. Intermediate is pointing up or down. The beaded side faces the shield, and it has to seal against it all the way around. Otherwise, condensation can get under it. You might have to play with it, adjusting the buttons until it does seal.

The top vent is wide open with the switch pushed all of the way back. Read the part of the manual concerning ventilation because there are internal adjustments of the pads as well.

on the road last summer . That's part of my "only in the winter plan" for the C3 . You can actually see light looking from the inside out, after the liner flaps are moved . Does it allow water egress ? This ones not seen the rain, just through damn good luck . It has been clogged with bugs though . There were a bunch of bugs stuck under the visor where it was letting air in last night as well . That may have been the problem, or the pinlock eliminated it . The pinlock does work, I just got back from a ride to heat the oil for a change . I likely wouldn't have bitched, but after seeing the mega discount on a helmet that the factory claims, "never gets discounted" after I dropped $625. and 700 miles yesterday dealing with the unprepared, by me, helmet . Prompted the rant .

They're blowing the C3s out because now they have the C3 Pro. You can pop the top vent cover off to clean bugs out of it. Procedure is in the manual.

Big kudos to Jason at RevZilla for helping me with a replacement part for a Schuberth that I didn't even buy from them. I've been a regular 'Zilla customer for some time now and I don't really see that trend ending any time soon.

I had been somewhat satisfied with $100-200 helmets but was shopping around and made the mistake of letting a salesman at the BMW dealer slip a C3 on my head. After comparing a properly fitting XXL to the it-sort-of-fits 3XL HJCs i've been getting by with, i'm willing to consider something in this price range, especially since i'm looking for something that handles cold and the neck sealing features of the C3 look ideal.

The C3pro doesn't seem to offer any significant upgrades for my needs (maybe the repositioned strap?) so i'm looking at a C3. However i see i missed the blowout sale when the pro came out, and would be investing more than 3 times what i have previously for a 4 year old design. Why did the price return to the original level after the 'blowout'? I didn't think Schuberth did sales. Is the price going to dip again this summer? Have they upgraded some little bits here and there with what they developed for the pro?

Also, I'd almost rather have a full face for better integrity around the temples. However it looks like the S2 is more expensive, heavier, and lacks the neck seal the C3 delivers with its neck/chin curtains. wBW also knocked the S2 sunvisor, an important feature to me, for not dropping far enough down, but they seem happy with it in the C3. Any comments on comparing the two?

You may wish to check Revzilla: http://www.revzilla.com/schuberth-helmets I don't have an S2 to compare with my C3 but a riding bud does. He almost never wears the S2.

I've had my C3 for two years and it has been, by far, the best helmet I've owned. It did take a bit a breaking-in. Also, I fitted it with the SRC unit and it flawlessly connects to my iPhone so I can take my entire music library for those long tours. I did look at a new Pro but I saw no need to switch.

Great questions Don Coyote. It’s nice that you’ve had the opportunity to try on the Schuberth C3 helmet. Finding a properly fitting helmet can be a pain in the neck (pun?:rofl) with the amount of options and small number of retail locations carrying top helmet brands.

You are right on the money. The Schuberth C3 Pro is not a complete overhaul of the C3, it’s a tasteful upgrade.

While designing the C3 Pro, Schuberth directed much of their attention towards its interior. They completely redesigned the interior to have a more universal fit and better sound dampening. A well-known issue with the C3’s interior is the "Mark of the Schuberth”. The C3 Pro’s new interior design addresses this issue. However, Schuberth also addressed this issue in the C3 with an optional replacement crown liner.

Before the C3 Pro was introduced, the C3 (solid color) had an MSRP of $699.00. Once the C3 Pro was introduced, with an MSRP of $769.00 (solid color), the C3’s price dropped to $629.00.

It’s tough comparing fullface helmets and modular helmets because they’re two different animals. The S2 is a fullface helmet, designed around an aggressive sportbike riding style. The C3 is a modular helmet with the touring rider in mind. Their riding styles, aerodynamics, vent positions, features and fit are all different. Does that mean the C3 cannot be ridden on a sportbike? No, but the C3’s features are not optimized for that style of riding.

I have a C3 Pro, and I found that the top air scoop was more fragile than the one on the C3. I had the helmet fall off the bike seat and land on the scoop, and it flew off along with the operating button. The front of it was crushed and broken. I e-mailed Schuberth USA, and they didn't have a replacement in yet, so Phil offered to send a C3 scoop in hi-viz. It fit perfectly, and I can see it's stronger than the original, so I'm going to leave it on.

Thanks for the comprehensive reply Brian. I wasn't clear with my question on upgrades. I was wondering if the C3 got any tweaks when the Pro was released. So even new C3s still use the original liner and those experiencing problems need to spring for the non-marking replacement?

The price thing makes sense. I hadn't realized it was originally priced at $700.

One other thing i was wondering about these, does the internal antenna in the Pro give it tin foil hat functionality without the SRC system hooked up?

You are very welcome! We just want to make sure you have everything needed to make your decision.

C3 helmets have not changed since the release of the C3 Pro. The C3’s crown liner remains the same. I’ve included pictures of a new C3’s “standard” crown liner and the optional replacement crown liner. Both pictures were taken from the forehead point of view to show how the replacement crown liner has changed.

The C3 Pro’s internal antenna does not pick up random frequencies when an SRC System is not installed. However, RevZilla tests have shown the C3 Pro does have a lower alien abduction rate.

So that rectangular piece in the supplied liner is what folds in or out to cover the holes for winter riding? Does the replacement have anything to cover them?

Reading the webBikeWorld review of the C3Pro, they classify it as shaped slightly to the inverse-egg side of neutral, implying that the decreased abduction rate comes from the poor seal formed around the bottom and resulting 'booming' turbulence noise on those with egg-shaped heads.

Correct, the 1”x 1” (rough guess) Grey square in the standard liner was designed to keep cool air from seeping through to riders heads. The optional replacement crown liner does not have one. It relies on the open/close mechanism on the top vent. How effective the Grey square (for lack of a better term) is, will be subjective. If a rider is sensitive to cooler temperatures, it will come into play more.

The C3 and C3 Pro are both on the round side. I have an intermediate oval headshape (I’m an egg-head :lol3) and neither helmet fits me well. I have a lot of space in back of the neckroll. If the helmet does not fit evenly throughout the crown, cheeks and neck the rider will undoubtedly hear heavy buffeting / turbulence at speed.

Thanks again for your responses. Sorry my attempt to continue the alien joke was a bit too dry for a forum discussion, just wanted to recognize your contribution. ;-)

Do you happen to know what Schuberth would say about applying stickers to a helmet, if that might somehow void a warranty or something? I heard aftermarket paint can damage a helmet by chemically altering the shell and just wanted to be sure the same wouldn't be claimed for reflective safety stickers...

In no way did I feel alienated by your last joke. :lol3

For the most part, stickers will not void Schuberth's warranty.

Schuberth basically asks riders to use their best judgement. If the sticker's glue contains a strong solvent that could potentially eat through the helmet's clear coat, proceed with caution. However, if the sticker isn't anything out of the ordinary, stick away!

Also, any issues caused by a sticker's placement are not covered. For example: If you placed a sticker on the top vent and the sticker's glue melted into the vent's cracks, preventing the vent from opening / closing, it's not covered.

Let me know if I can help with anything else!

My daughter needs a new helmet and we have narrowed it down to the C3 Pro for women and the lazer monaco carbon. She presently has a Nolan N90 and feels it is a tank (she picks up either my Nexx XR1R carbon or my Lazer falcon carbon and gets very jealous). My wife has a C3 so she has some idea about the Schuberth (she will be trying one on shortly). Lazer helmets are not something that you can find to try so I wanted to get your opinion about one vs the other, weight, fit, comfort, noise, etc. Either way I am buying them from you and I would prefer not to buy both for her to try on and send one back.

She rides a Triumph Bonneville without a windscreen but is considering adding one. Thanks

    Hey cruisincruzan,

Below is a picture of a C3 Pro Women's helmet (Medium = 3lbs 10.2oz) and LaZer Monaco Carbon (Medium = 3lbs 5.6oz). Please excuse my poor camera skills.

    <a href="http://s854.photobucket.com/user/HiVizBrian/media/20140414_104917_zpsef3dc23f.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="https://www.advrider.com/advrider-photobucket-images/images/H/HiVizBrian_20140414_104917_zpsef3dc23f.jpg" border="0" alt="C3 Pro Women's (Medium) vs LaZer Monaco Carbon (Medium) photo 20140414_104917_zpsef3dc23f.jpg"/></a>

Ounce for ounce, the Monaco is 4.6oz lighter. Side by side, the Schuberth is noticeably smaller in overall size. The Monaco has a larger overall profile and should feel heavier at speed due to wind resistance without a windshield.

From a fit and comfort standpoint, the Monaco runs narrow, while the Women's C3 Pro is slightly round (based on my intermediate oval head shape). For riders with narrow faces, the Monaco should also be more comfortable. I found the C3 to be more forgiving around the jawbone. The C3's interior liner and cheek pads felt thicker and more dense compared to the Monaco. Thicker interior liners will add weight, but also have a more forgiving fit after break-in. Finally, I had more chinbar room in the Schuberth. My chin was very close to the Monaco's chinbar and I'm no Jay Leno...although I'd like to own his garage(s), hah.

Which helmet is quieter? The helmet that fits your daughter's head shape best will most likely be the quietest, because it will seal around her head better. I noticed the Monaco was a bit squeaky when manipulating the chinbar. However, this is mostly due to the Monaco being a pure carbon shell and not a composite blend.

This is personal preference but, one of my favorite things about the Monaco is the Lumino Photochromic Transitions faceshield with Pinlock. However, if your daughter is sensitive to the sun, she may need something darker. The Lumino shield transitions to a Smoke tint. Some riders need Dark Smoke to be completely comfortable.

Give me a shout if you have any more questions or if I can snap a few more pictures (I can use the practice).

    Ride safely,

    -HVB
