A good carpenter doesn't blame his tools.

Spot on. A good carpenter makes sure his tools are sharp and in good repair. He doesn't keep wasting his time with a dull hand saw that will wear him out, or a frayed cord on a power sander that could electrocute him.

Good carpenters don't like working with bad ones. I've ridden with guys with bald tires & bikes in poor repair. If they are consistently holding up the group because they require constant attention, then I no longer invite them along on rides. I spend way too much time and $$ preparing for rides to have my time wasted by those that don't.

Shhhhh..... It's not a done deal yet. I don't want to alienate my KLR "friends" quite yet. After all, I will still need to sell the old bike in the spring.

I'll not soon forget the words of the GS1200 rider that we met on the WABDR.
"Yes we saw some other bikes, two KTMs and.....I don't know WHAT the hell that other bike was!!"

    "Was it green?" I asked?
GS dood: "Yes. What the fuck was it?"....,...
    ......"AWD?, really?.....damn"
