My buddy and I scouted the Trans Mass in his Subaru this afternoon. A lot of the roads were plowed at each end where the houses stop. I got a little overzealous trying to cross one of the berms.

The dirt patches were mainly slick ice with rain on top. No way I'd take a bike on most of them now. I did see one small dual sport out on the road on the way home though. I can't wait to break in my rebuilt 1150GS on this trail next spring.

Absolutely. Perfect bike for it. By July all the spring mud will be gone.

did a stretch along the TMT today just for a fun outing, in the car. it's ready IF you have spikes, runners, tracks...crampons, trekking poles and ice skates.
same ole as the last picts; shiny, icy, seasonal closures.. the gravel roads are skating rinks w/ a wee bit o sand thrown down and the ice is thick w/ a capital T; everything this heavy mid-winter calls for out there. All I can say is it should be a very good yr for mud, that'll be w/ a capital M. I did about 70 miles and saw two vehicles, one a loaded logging truck and the other a big-ass front end loader. Did stop got to see two deer leisurely cross right in front of me by about 20 ft, and saw the largest pileated woodpecker I've ever seen, had to be 13-14" tall. there has to be miles of maple syrup lines out there.

Sign in the middle of the TMT region - [IMG]

It'll be a good while b4 the ice is out. see y'all in the Spring. :beer

    cheers, d :ricky

I just got a new R1200GS, and as soon as my Touratech panniers come in, I'm wanting to get out there and hit the TMT as my first real trail ride. I'm excited.

Congrats on the bike. You'll have a good ride. You may need a wait a bit as some of the roads are going to be pretty muddy/snowy at this point.
