Looks like a fun project. If you perhaps decide you don't need that seat cowl luggage rack, I would be more than glad to take it off your hands.
that's incredible. carbs in the floor, a couple of lazy dudes, jenna hard at work, and a tray full of hammers.
Haven't y'all heard that joke "how many bikers does it take to get a basket case runnin'." But seriously, that isn't completly how it went down. I've been blessed with well running airheads and am from the school of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." So it was with great pleasure I was able to tinker with one I could walk away from. Learned a lot, thanks Fred! And it was the first time in 20 plus years of riding bikes to be working on one with so many fun people. Thanks guys, got me out of the house
Great fun Jenna! Had a blast, a big thanks for all the work and laughs! Do you really need anything else? Crazy Bongo Boy - I'll let you know next time in case you're frisky. PS Sent!
Got new steering head barings. Got all the instruments out of the faring ... Got a guy picking up the faring on Saturday. Should get the Renthal bars on Saturday. Come over and let's get the races out. I'm free Saturday for a few hours. I have Jenna's welder ... I have two subframes with which to make a custom rack. Blaine - Where's the video? I gotta see that plume of smoke again. Me too! Damn this work thing ... it's getting in the way of my ridin'!
We might be able to use one of those sub-frames on the r65. Len's is bent. I'm stuck Saturday. headin' out to a friend's house. You can pull the races easy. Turn the welder on 'A', make sure you wear gloves since the slag'll be falling down on you, and make absolutely sure you stay in the middle of the race. If you hit the edge you'll weld the race to the frame.
I got a couple ... The on from the R90 seems to be a bit beefier than the 80's R80 subframe. I think I can just use one for my rack. Not a problem. Is the subframe on the R65 the same as the LWB R90 / R80? I think I'm going to call you about getting the race out ... I'm not sure I know what you're talking about ...
I got one for you ... as luck would have it ... I only need one too. It's yours. I'll call Brad ... maybe I can drop it off tomorrow morning.
Let me rephrase that: I HAVE two subframes NOW, but only need ONE. I know you said you already have the sub you want, but if you decide otherwise, the other subframe's yours.
I'll be around in the morning. I'm close to having the Honda running so I'll be down here turning wrenches for a little while. The clutch is hung. Hopefully it's an easy fix then I'll gas it up and see what happens. I happen to have a r65 gas tank that I can siphon some fuel out of
It's not a big deal getting the race out. I'm working all day saturday or I'd stop by. Basically you want to keep the weld away from the inside of the steering head and only on the race. So it's like a ring, just stay in the middle of the inside of the ring, like a line you would engrave on the inside of a wedding band. Does that make sense???
exactly. Just don't touch the metal on the frame and you'll be good. Same with the setting. 'A' is the lowest so it'll have very little penetration. You could weld it through the steel but not on the 'A' setting. It's a Dobber job. You don't have to be picky
OK ... so after I do this ... it will *pop* right out? Somehow this doesn't make sense to me ... Let me try it.
Mine didn't pop out I had to pry a little bit. I could be wrong but I think the idea is that the heat from the weld shrinks the race a tad
