Riding on pavement without a rear cush hub can certainly punish the countershaft splines. Here's a photograph I found of a KTM XC4 countershaft with 12,000 miles of wear. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=752081 Here's a photograph of the countershaft on my XR650L after 37,000 miles of riding. At the time of this photograph I had been employing a wider, XR650R C/S sprocket for 27,000 miles. Spud
Spelling has always been my downfall I was born without that part of the brain I figure. I even lived in Novato for 3+ years out on Indian Valley road and in town. Came dam close to not getting a college degree because of my English lit deficit , still graduated with honors somehow.
It sat out in the driveway idling for a few minutes before I got started... otherwise I might have gotten a few clumps of black cottage cheese out of it!:eek1 I was pleasantly surprised that the Shorai actually started it today. I started it a few weeks ago and it would not turn it over... had to kick it to get it fired up. Today the battery managed to crank it sloooooowly, but it caught after a few turns.
AFAIK Va is the same. ask if you can do this or that...NO! I don't know. Why don't you tell me. Hey, don't shoot the messenger. Everybody calls the mod by that name. I've never seen you complain before so... From now on I'll call it Brian's mod. Better? That should thoroughly confuse all the "L" owners.
Well the time has come to part with my BRP. I am buying an 03 995i Tiger. I can work with someone on getting the bike to lower 48. The bike I am buying is in Oregon. Does not come with the bags or hedge clippers. I do have an Enduro trail stand that does come with it. I have quite a few extras: wheels, tires, and most stock stuff. Send me a PM or call. 573.528.5212. Asking 3000. 600 miles since it made the trek to see The Wizard.
I'm finally getting around to reasembling my 04. The service manual calls for 0.7 Foot pounds torque(8.4 inch pounds) on the Steering bearing adjustment nut, Pg., 11-14, item #13. I own both a foot pound and inch pound torque wrench. Neither one go that low. Whats the best way to get it set right. Just snug it until it is hand tight, then loosen a touch or...?
turns and doesn't wiggle = good turns and wiggles or doesn't turn = bad. There's your torque settings.
Brown Falcon, are you near Hansen's Triumph Shop? Guy is going to bring it there for a once over. If you are nearby, could you look at it for your opinion? It could be an adventure ferrying bikes!! If I brought the bike down there would you be interested. Going to balance the cost of shipping vs. roadtrip before I deploy.
Tighten the nut with channel locks while rotating the steer head from side to side. loosen the nut and run it back finger tight. You will need to re-set the bearings after a very short time in operation as the bearings run-in/wear-in quickly.
