    So first this happened.

(I didn't think to take a picture of it on its side)

Then PatrickInVA called me. I told him I found wood I think I can get this out.

Then some local friends showed up to help.

    We did what we could

Then Beaniman showed up, somehow, after receiving very vague directions from me because when he texted me I thought he was Patrick, so I assumed he had all the info from the phone call.

And that's when the progress got A LOT better

    YAY!

It's an "adventure bike", not a swamp bogger!

Howd' those OEM tires work out? Slick as snot in the mud I'll bet. :lol3

I'll give you extra guts points for the attempt!

Dljocky stopped by to see the XR today. Good thing I was checking the valve clearance and had trouble fining the T with one eye. They were supposed to have just been checked but were at least 2 thousand too large. XR is so far easy to work on. Just needed a bucket from Dljocky .

After the son with a new license took it for a little ride. Better for a beginner than a jacked up Vstrom with a taller seat. The taste of gravel.

Sadly, I thought your detached retina comment was your way of saying the new Honda was fast. :huh

    Heal up quick.

I did some exploring on the Dakar this morning after breakfast. Found some dirt trails in Hampton.

    Climbed a little hill.
    Found ruts.
    Didn't panic.
    Almost pooped.

Also had to keep telling myself to use BACK brake, and not front. Made it out alive, disregardless. Came home and took a nap. Made pizza tonight. Gonna watch Mythbusters. Ok, I'm just rambling now...

Around where they're building the new Cmdr. Sheppard Extension. Just little backroads and spoils trails that construction vehicles have made. But it looks like some locals with 4x4's have been back into a lot of them and made them pretty gnarly.

Back home I grew up with ATV's, and it was always hard to find good places to ride without someone with a big truck finding it and completely destroying the area. Can't tell you how many times we had some really nice trails through the woods completely ruined 'cause BillyJoe Stumphumper wanted to get mud on the side of his F150 to show his friends.

But yeah, there's plenty of mud back there to bury a GS. :evil

BlakKrau, trails in Hampton? Fox Hill area?
I explored the Mud Road for the first time since I hurt my back in March. Wasn't very muddy, but it's not seen much traffic as it's getting a lot of growth on the road. Found a few little sandy roads too.

Lot of new growth coming in.

I didn't push it at all today, but I'm sore as hell.

Biker128pedal. I really like that bike. Congrats!

Nope. Near Langley AFB and NIA.

I need to check out this Mud Road you all talk about.

I also need to check out a road I saw on the Googles up in James City County.

    Spousal unit wants a bike.
Saw decent 2006 lowered f650gs in Flea Market in Richmond. Lady owns it since new. 20k on the clock and has maintenance records.
Wife is 5'6", good athlete. Owner is 5'4" and can flat foot both feet.
I know conventional wisdom says first bike shouldn't be bigger than a 250, but wife rode dirt bikes as a kid (a long time ago) and I don't want to buy a 250 only to have to sell it in 6 months. If it was for a teenager, I wouldn't go more than 250, fortunately wife has some common sense.

Your personal opinions are most welcome.
Daang, my other option bike is your 700 Honda...wahddyathink...too tall?
Especially would like to hear from you 650 GS gurus

I've spent time on an F650Gs and I think it'd be a great bike for her.

When Emma upgrades from the TW, that'll likely be her next bike. It's got enough oomph for her to follow you on your big GS, but she'll be hard-pressed to get herself into trouble on it. It's a very forgiving bike.

The F650gs is pretty low anyway. And someone lowered it more!? :)

I know that BrendaP takes really good care of her stuff. I've ridden a few F650GS thumpers and I think they are fantastic. I was looking for one when I got my DR. I still would like to own that bike one day.
    Good luck.
