I have been told to wait until the event to find a riding partner, but I am a little uneasy about that. Riding my F800GS, looking to join a group of similar (650 or larger) bikes. I don't want to try to keep up with 250s and 450s!

there will be an area of "I need a riding partner" BUT I would find someone now. don't wait.

my first year I did the "I need a riding partner" cuz none of my riding buddies rode this ride. (how dumb right!?!)
I posted in the District 37 forum and actually found too many buddies so we split into two groups of 3.

so my advice is, go on D37 forum and post up or PM some of the guys on this thread and straighten it out now.

the morning of the ride is so stressful (good and not so good) and the last thing you want is to stress about a riding partner.
rolling the rollchart alone is enough to make me sweat.:lol3

and it's best to not have more than 2-4 total people in a group. whether you're fast guys or noobs, it gets too complicated trying to keep track of everyone.
also, riding etiquette.... you are responsible for the guy behind you. wait at a turn or a Y in the trail. give everyone your cell number. there is cell reception on most of the course. last year I did text my riding buddies when we got separated and they responded and found us. it happens.
if you have to bail onto the highway, tell your riding buddies, don't just bail and expect them to know where you went.
also, don't roost people. if you have to pass a group, pass smoothly and if they don't hear you behind them trying to pass, blip the throttle a few times (or honk your horn) and get their attention and pass on the left.
same goes with slow riders, if you know someone is trying to pass, let them. don't hog the trail. just move to the right(if there's room) and hold a steady throttle, no need to brake, and the fast rider will pass.
again, if you stop for a break or to wait for your buddies, get off the trail. we don't need another rear end YouTube video.

Those familiar with the course and the "easy" route and various bypasses - anyone think the Honda Grom with some offroad tires would make it? :evil

"We'll have an area for single riders to pair up with or get a group together. I've met lifelong friends this way. Look for guys on similar bikes, wearing similarly seasoned riding gear."

Direct quote from D37 when I asked about a riding buddy.

I never said there won't be an area to meet other riders... it will just be extra crazy hectic the first morning.
and you don't want to waste time.
hit the trail as early as possible.

No I totally agree with you. I'm just saying when I asked with the intention of finding a buddy/group that was the only response I got. I will be surprised if there are no other big bikes!
