This thread is making me miss my old van something fierce! I had one like this (1977 Dodge van): Bought it in 1984 when I was a firefighter, with the '24 on 48 off' schedule it got used constantly, camping, concerts, road trips, "other". It was ugly as hell (baby shit brown paint), had green shag carpet and lawn chairs for passengers...I had a great time in it!!
Anyone got any more pics of their camping conversions. I'm thinking of buying this thing. I can get it CHEAP and I think I could take out all but mabe the first row of bench seats. It's a 91 E350 5.8L with 158,000 miles. Seems to run strong. It was an old chuch van and they usually maintain them well.

Better put it of your list; a friend of mine, who's working in the automotive cluster in Graz told me, that the Viscos on the Syncros have a shelf live; they are filled with some vegetable stuff which gives up over time. :eek1 Calculated use-period is long over now. And you can't order new ones/spares. At Magna, a few have been rebuilt, but those where "inside"-jobs for friends, normally far to expensive to offer it to "clients". Those were ment to be workhorses and not many have survived; they are expensive over here, to, but it seems that they will be gone in a few years. The IVECO 4x4 have a good reputation, too
Cool Ford, and only 10k original miles! Been a couple years since Ive gone to the Towe Auto Museum, but they always have some cool vehicles to look at, and they sell stuff on consignment too.

Those pop-tops are kind of scarce. Could never find one here. I'd have removed all the camper stuff & changed it to haul bikes & camp in it too. Those are my favorite vans, had them for almost 40 years. Big inside but smaller outside than most any van.
another epic fail. Waste of precious space with that long hood. And who needs a 4 liter V6 or 5.6 liter V8 for sth. like that? give us a 4, 5 or 6 cyl diesel w. 2.5 - 3.5l displacement. they should bring this: Nissan interstar or the nv200 Not this mix of Titan, Navara, Ford econoline .
Eugh. That van looks really whacked. Kinda like the love (hate?) child of a Navara and an early series SWB Ford Transit. They really should stop trying to put those crappy long engines in vans. It really ruins the whole look (and makes the vehicle unnecessarily large).
I am the child of a 70's van man. We traveled all over in my dad's Tradesman 100 with the baby blue shag carpet, paneled walls and a couch in the back. My dad who is no longer able to drive gave us his 98' E250 last year. That thing is great for hauling bikes and stuff around. My daughter loves it because it has crank down windows. That's an exotic concept to kids these days, I guess. Does the Toyota Wonderwagon qualify as a van? I always loved those. I'd like to have one now. I spotted this baby in NYC last winter. Finally some other folks who will appreciate it's greatness! That is some quality artwork right there...
Anyone see the article in Rider about the Ford Transit Connect? A guy used it to bring a vintage bike to a show, then camped out in it.
This is the van I used to get to the MX races in '73-'74. 1 ton short wheel base. Then oil embargo and a broken leg at Lake Sugartree put an end to that...... Bob
Never seen an extended van done up like that. Not sure I like it. Obviously, a much larger canvas to express yourself, but doesn't look right to me. Kind of like doing a big Frazetta mural and mushroom windows on a Sprinter.
