The 2012 Australasian Safari is done and dusted and was a huge success, all new course, new bivouacs, great racing and part of the Dakar Challenge programme.

The Safari organisers recognise that the logistics and costs for riders based in the Eastern States can make participating in the Safari for both the race or Adventure tour can be a real challenge it in self...................just getting to the event start can be a big effort and commitment.

In order to assist more riders make the trip across the Nullabor for the 2013 Safari, the event organisers are implementing two great incentives

    Subsidised freight

Take your bike, tyres, tools, gear bag & swag to a nominated depot in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide and Safari will get it to Perth for you at a heavily discounted rate - it is expected that the return freight deal will be capped at around $500

    Safari Malle Motos

Just like Dakar for the 2013 Safari there will be a Malle Moto service provided by the organisers. This service provides
    • cartage of your swag, tools, spares, tent, gear bag etc for the duration of the event
    • supply of 98 octane race fuel during the event (except for refuel at servos on liaisons)
    • refuel support at service breaks
    • travel from Perth to event competition start and back
In the bivouac each night you will have access to
    • quickshade
    • tyre changing gear
    • lights
    • generator
    • compressor
Mechanic support is not provided, you are required to do all your own servicing, set up your own tent/camp and pull it down each day. The only support at the service / refuel pints will be assistance with refueling and access to any tools/parts/food items etc that you prepare and put in the Malle Motos service car.

While it is to be confirmed it is expected that this packge will cost $1,750 per rider.

While not offically announced yet the planned dates for Safari 2013 are the 3rd week of September..............................so start your planning now, book your leave time from work and let the Safari organisation know you are in to reserve your spot for your bike or quad in the freight deal.

I checked a few freight prices from Sydney to Perth, they were about $1k each way so this is a great deal.

yeah case by case depending on the degree of mobility capability :kurt

but not the ASO operations model where you are left to your own devices and have to traverse vast distances via dodgy local taxi or worse etc

    solutions will be provided

    Could be worse.
    Truck of shames a doddle.

With the subsidised transport from the east coast now, worse than the truck of shame is the couch of shame :deal

This is the kind of thing about the Safari that interests me the most.

Makes the bike choice harder though.

Take the 450 and ride a bit easier then work like a navvy each night.

Or take the 640 and do the day harder but kick back after an airfilter change with a beer doing tomorrows road book. :scratch
