Central Arkansas ride planning and whatever else thread

I know that we Central Arkansawyers aren't too good at b.s.ing, but I know we like to ride, and we're always talking about starting our own thread so we can plan those rides. So here goes. Bring it. Don't rely on me, cuz I am often at work, and I don't work at a desk. Let's hear your riding plans, your breakfast meeting plans, and whatever else ya got.

For starters, did I hear something about a ghost town hunt? Arkansawyer, help me out here. Wasn't it tentatively planned for October 31st?

Lot of good riding & meeting places South of I-40 & West of Little Rock. All the way to Texas. We have twisty slab and dirt.

And today we have RAIN !!!!!!! By By dust. Yee Haw !!!!

Any good ideas for a remote camping spot, near Lake Winona? I'm thinking about camping near here w/ my boy, in about a week.

Certainly an option, I've never been up there. I wouldn't hesitate to take my GS up that hill, although 2-up might be a challenge. My only concerns would be having to haul-in firewood and getting "busted" for crossing a berm.

DTZDR, do you know if that is an open trail or a "don't get caught" trail?

I don't know if its open but the berm is mighty worn down. There is plenty of room to camp up there and firewood wouldn't be a problem. An alternative may be the Brown Creek area not too far away.

About a 90% chance I'll work both days this weekend. I'll know for sure Wed night.
The halloween ghost town tour might be fun. Some are harder to get to than others.

Make sure the burn bans are off before lighting a fire....

And since you want to 'rough it' remember you can camp most anyplace in the Nat. Forrest. I see good camp spots all over when just ridding along looking at the scenery...

Hot showers and bunk beds are a little harder to come by...

Hopefully we'll get some more rain before we go camping.
I'm excited about a ghost town tour, since I've never seen a ghost town, although the part of town where my UPS route is is getting close to being one.

Thanks for the link. I am concerned about the burn ban and am hoping the rain continues through next week. I wouldn't want to be camping in mid 40's weather without a fire.

It still won't be as cold as my one night on the south rim of the Grand Canyon in January. Just like in riding, though, good gear makes all the difference. Not that I have much good camping gear anymore. I lost it in a fire and I keep spending all my money on motorcycles. Imagine that.

Yeah I thought about that, particularly if it is windy. This spot right here is a great camping spot. I'm just afraid some hunters will already have it occupied.

Two ghost towns are close to each other and easy to get to. A modern car could get to one without scraping the oil pan. One still has a few residents. Not mentioned on either list above.

The other group of towns are harder to get to. I haven't been to all of them yet. Only one is listed above. It's fairly easy to get to, the others aren't.

Sounds like we will get to see some good ones, then. Those NWA Arkansas boys might have to tag along with us.

Mallettown on that list is not a 'ghost town'
There is still maybe 100 people there.
Its only about 5 miles from the house.
The sad part of Arkansas ghost towns of any age
is that they was often salvage and dismantled for
the usable lumber for other purposes.
A price example of this was Pinnacle Springs south
of Guy. There is literally nothing left there today
to ever suggest a town was there.
It was actually a resort type place at the
time it was built.

Best Ghost towns are in AZ, NM, & CO anyway....

But we do strive to make your ride enjoyable here in AR....

AR ghost towns were mostly associated with lumber or mining. If you want to find them, hit your local library and check out some books.

I still want to ride all or most of the original southwest trail/military road/government road. Lunch at Old Washington State Park and back home.

Haven't ridden across a 50' high RR trestle in over a month.

Did an all day street ride last Saturday. 7,27,341,14,263,66 and a few others. Lunch at Cody's was good.
