That is a false & degrading calumny that I cannot let even attempt to stand up. This you either know, or the following will put you straight.

A Brief Biog Of An Inveterate Tool: J^^^^^^ N^^^^^ has, over a period of time, been a reference point for me to think that perhaps, after all, I am not as big a tool as I might be. Its no great shakes to come out well compared to him, so it’s of little solace i.e. being a Donkey winning a Grand Nation full of Goats, however he sets the lowest possible bar as to how a person can be the aforementioned complete tool and still think they’re ok. Now you may think you’ve known some tools, I may have known some of the tools you’ve known, and I’m sure you’ve met plenty of tools I’ve not met. You may have met this specific tool, or know damn well I’m not that despicable he. If you’re lucky you’ve never met him or at least have had the fortune to have forgotten him. If the latter, please allow me to bring to you the all the pain of remembrance…

Mr N^^^^^, known by the legal appellation of J^^^^ H^^^^^^^^^^^ (tho/ough known to me as Twatty Jonnybreaker) is best described by reference to past situations or possible links or passing contact, and in the second instance by a laying out of key repeated patterns of behaviour, thru/ough which to illustrate his grand toolhood. I will give as brief an exposition of the first (historical) category of report, then if my basal ganglia has not succeeded in throttling each & every one of my neurotransmitters I may delve into the constantly repeated stupidities this man has perpetrated on the world in a way that Nietzche described thus (and I’m paraphrasing) – If a series of bad events & experiences have one common factor, and that is you, then you are the problem. Oh what Bliss when one chances (at a distance) upon one who completely exemplifies this assertion, but totally t o t a l l y doesn’t get it.

He was a Clash style punk (as opposed to an Xray Spex, or Crass type, you will know the distinguishing quirks & behaviours) much derided as a twat (because he was a twat) by the likes of Jefferson Whatisname et al. I liked Jefferson (that’s Jefferson, not J^^^^^^ who is the subject of your taunt, though I was not on Jeffersons A list and my fondest memory of him is wrestling him to the ground and laughing in his grinning face after he grabbed my throat and got all ‘hard’ on me. But back to Twatto Stringbreaker.) You might have the best chance of recalling him (if you don’t already) as being sire to S^^^^^ d^ G^^^^^^^*, daughter of R^^^^ d^ G^^^^^^^, head of Art @ A^^^^^^^ College. She was the sister of E^^^^^ d^ G^^^^^^^ with whom I did that last (Fly to the Moon) thing you saw @ the Civic Centre with the singing and the AmDram, who I lived with in Nailsburgh & London - until for good reason (I am a twat) she ran off with a dancer… I can’t particularly think of any other links thru/ough which you may have come across JN/JH, but then I was not and am not your keeper :-D I was of course in that family when the divorce crashed its way through probably the most obstructive (and toolish) process I’ve seen.

But NO. I am not him and I must profess a mock hurt that you would suggest such a thing dearest consort of mine.

Now to refer to his undiagnosed personality disorder, I will describe a pattern of behaviour I have observed being cyclically repeated for, ooh, what year are we in now?, oh I’d say three decades? I’ll briefly reassert that I guess I’m no better, but as I mentioned just a little smidge better. I find that comforting, probably much as a fly relishes a turd, but still. The first pattern he delivers without fail is best described as a triumvirate of:

1 - From isolation ingratiate yourself into X group or organisation (e.g. Wifes Family/arches Coffee Bar/local Labour Group/local Socialist Worker Group/local Mosque/Council for Racial Equality/Jewish Heritage Community/Community Centre/Charity Shop/Arts Centre/Court for benefit fraud etc. ad inf), and thence to misrepresent oneself in a wheedling way.

2 - Begin causing niggles which you inflate into ‘big trubble’ and then flounce out the door once more into ‘magnificent’ isolation. Immediately come up with a rationalisation as to why you are right and they are wrong, type it up and send it to them in triplicate.

3 – Maintain an unshakable but unfounded mind set that this is everyones fault but your own. Repeat.

None of this would be so bad if it were done with a sense of humour or at least a wicked mischievousness. But no, always right is as always right does, and oh how it’s dull when it does it.

As a 2nd reference to consistently toolish behaviour we have the constant “I’m outta here and never coming back” mantra that never seems to convert itself into action i.e. LEAVING TOWN - off to college (1.5 weeks), off to the south coast (the locals down there were saved from that by him never going past the town boundary here), off to mainland Europe (we’ll see) etc. There are children, though I know not how many. My understanding, tho/ough admittedly remote, is that they range from 20+ yrs down, are not in productive contact, and none of them chooses to take his name. Tho/ough I am not the one to judge, this might seem to steps 1 to 3 above?

Thirdly ( and believe me there’s more, but not yet :-D ), I might make reference to his BH activities. At times he seems to make right on arguments that might have some foundation in rational thought, however any residual strength in such arguments are merely simulacrums of assumed beliefs assumed to make the ingratiating part easier. There is neither honour or mischievous dishonour evidenced in the subjects real world behaviour. He has produced multiple log ins on the site through which to support his posts & fake up the thumbs up count. As a distinguishing comparison I have posted arguments between me1 & me2 on my little internot bolg, and this was funny. He simply clatters his identities together is dull support of his fantasy of himself and constantly asserts that others disagree with him because they are jealous of his unspecified qualities. Such positions are of course almost invariably the refuge of the be-tooled.

So, by the length of this you can see my mock narkedness at your despicable mock suggestion. I guess it’s rooted in the uncomfortable sensation I get if I ever find myself feeling that I might be like him. I can’t be more frank than that now can I. It’s like when I mentioned to you that I had a haircut that made me feel like Johnny Smuffton. I have a different haircut now.

Please feel free not to have read any of the preceding. From my point of view this is so long because I needed something to do whilst running a format/recovery installation on a kindly donated Netbook I am configuring, and you know how such a process involves a lot of waiting for bars to creep across towards completion along with time taken removing all the Win 7 add-ons, and so thence I to sleep.

Goodnight.

X xxxX

The 'middle car park'.

There's the Top Carpark, up by the access road, this Middle Carpark by the pub, the Side Carpark on the slope up to the woods (also usefully sloped for bumpstarts), the Bottom Carpark towards the end, and the Bottom End Carpark beyond that, tho/ough for my part this was entirely unvisited as it seemed to be home to cars or potential doggers? Allegedly*

On the occasion of my undertaking Video-Mixing Back Projection tasks for Rawk Bands & Deeeee-Jays I am sometimes inclined to send a digi stills camera out into the audience with various Igor/Obelix stylee assistants that may be available. The pics thus harvested live from the auditoria are then flown into the live vid mix.

On most occasions the errant photogs come back as flat 2d instamatic feeling snaps of audients. But once in a while the pics that come back are of a different magnitude, taken as they are by a person demonstrating that innate skill in framing/composition and intuitive grasp of just when to press the button.

My Shiny Knobs Night pics in the previous posts clearly evidence that I am not one of the latter order... However it was also difficult to get snaps past the groups of peeple gathered round each machine pointing & mumbling :lol3

Ah ye gads, I see you've got the Squaricycle concept up and running at last. Good show.

I should perhaps at this juncture reveal that I myself am working on a Triangu-cycle, where both wheels are direct driven by the rotors of hub mounted Wankel Rotary Engines. I do hope you won't feel that this would infringe any of your patents or crowd your potential sales demographic? Anyway, my concept is entirely different as it will be powered by the waltzes of Chopin & Berlioz, whereas your Squaricycle will I'm sure be powered by 4/4 Rhythm & Blues - an entirely different market sector.

I would suggest that one of the benefits of these strange wheeled devices will be their ability to make it easy to ride up stairways. Together we could crush Stannah Stair Lifts and at the same time significantly extend the riding careers of our more mature readers who have not yet moved into bungalows. Get Cybil to draw up an agenda & we'll thrash out the details over a rousing lunchtime of Rum & Spanish Dancers...

And so another of the annual Shiny Knobs Night has come & gone at the local Classic Bike Club, and once more there was no officially sanctioned prize for 'Worst In Show'. To be fair I'm not even a signed up member of the BBCMCC or regular visitor to the Wednesday night meets to have even a whiff of the right to an opinion, and I can understand that such a Cup might, inadvertently, be awarded to a bike that the owner was actually quite chuffed with, leading to much consternation & potential fisticuffs - but I can't help but maintain the naughty view that focussing on period correct zinc versus stainless treatment of washers on the '69 model, & catalogue standard rebuilds to assemble a car park full of bikes resembling a dealers window helps to exclude the whole wide community of inept but enthusiastic builders dotted here & there who, like me, failed metalwork at school.

Let's not be confused. I’m not criticizing anybody, all respect is due to those that chose/can deliver those higher standards that lay beyond my capabilities (or interest), and similar respect to those that refurbish & reanimate rotted barn-finds of obscure or rare models or specials with provenance.

But...

BMW has a factory museum where it keeps versions of everything it built just as Herman and Gunter & the boys designed them, & specialists like HPN or Ritmo Sereno or latterly Roland Sands Design do the exotic stuff, & you peeple here at AdvR deal with the ingenious & the exotic, so if it's ok with y'all I'm just going to keep building them the way I do, and riding them till they fall apart, and not washing or polishing them, and complaining about mystery misfires etc. And sooner or later the world will come round to my point of view. It usually does in the end.

You see, the way I see it, way back peeple used to ride Motosickles as a utilitarian necessity. They had neither the cash nor the inclination to leave the equivalent of 12-15k worth of car sitting in a factory car park all day, and the Motosickle was, generally, the working mans transport solution of choice. I grew up next to an major manufactuary of Bifurcated & Tubular Rivets, and their staff vehicle parking was full of rarely standard bikes, except down the Executive end of the car park where the Bentleys resided. Two wheeled machines were built to run high mileages easily, and could be worked on by the owner at home or at the roadside. But when the working classes began to be fooled into imagining they were the middle classes, and Systematised Global Abuse Of Labour In Emerging Nations meant that we over here ‘Never Had It So Good’, well then cheaper 4 wheeled transport brought about the migration of these long time riders to what you people sometimes refer to as ‘Cages’.

It could be argued that Japanese manufacturers led other manufacturers into building bikes to a standard indicative of their realisation that they might only ever do 15k miles in their entire lifetime, with material quality and (in some cases) a price to match*, and so over time the Motosickle began to be seen (& marketed) as a recreational vehicle rather than all year/every day transport. The logical conclusion of this is of course the regularly observed** Power-Ranger-Weekend-Rider with a £500 helmet and £200 gloves, or that other group that I might describe as the ‘Restored Bike Retainer’.

In the main the magazines, quite understandably, focus on serving the mentality which serves their advertisers, and are full of “I had the tinware restored by Ronnie Weldemup in Blahtown, and the wheels built by Dick Fiddler in a little workshop in Nether Nowhere, the engine is a replica from original drawings remaufactured by Bert Oldbloke at 'Oldbloke & Evenolderson' in Marsh Gibbon, and then the whole thing was put together by Reg Retiredmechanic at ‘Incredibly Expensive Restorative Rebuilds Inc.’ - It’s only done 24 miles, and that’s mostly me pushing it round the living room…”. Now please understand I’m not saying the delightfully motley mob at the Shiny Knobs Night yesterday are like this, no, they’re almost exclusively good honest oil-under-the-nails enthusiasts and dyed in the wool bike lovers. I'm not even saying those willing or able to pursue this 'Bespoke Rebuild By Blokes That Know' approach are wrong, or that the throng of Old Lads & Lasses knuckling down in sheds to Get It Just Right shouldn't bother.

But…

When people are paying £1300 for a NOS Kwak Z1 exhaust surely something’s got to be wrong?

But that's a problem for the wider world - last night in that car park a delightful variety of interesting & well executed motor bicycles gathered to be pointed at & critiqued by a sizeable but comfortably intimate assemblage of welcoming Spannerheads, and though there was no prize for my old nag, I for one didn't see a worse bike there :-D

Is it just me or have you fitted an intermittent reverse gear? If I look long enough/closely enough/intoxicated enough I seem to catch them going backwards every now & again.

Ingenious, no doubt for three point turning on staircases when one's forgotten what one was going upstairs for and decided to go back to the living room and see if that jogs the memory...

As a final aside for the day, minds greater than mine will rule on the F1 Mercedes/Pirelli Test hearing tomorrow. While most observation or debate I come across centres around the smoky distractions of black crash helmets & a disorganised chain of authorisation between the FIA & the defendants, I will be waiting for mention in the Tribunals findings of:

1. The apparent ongoing prospect of Bernard Charles Ecclestone being considered for criminal charges in Germany relating to alleged bribery, for which the allegedly bribed individual is already in prison. That last bits not alleged, he’s banged up right ‘n’ proper.
2. Just where this places a German team which I understand is bound by its governing documents & prevailing law to pro-actively avoid conducting business with those involved in criminal behaviours.
3. The various unstable situations surrounding the Concorde Agreement (which makes safe & defines F1 as a secure contracted vendible asset), & the potential exit of Mercedes via any provisions in their variant of the contract with Formula One Management relative to its obligations under 2 above.
4. How the dual instability in 3 above effects the mooted float of F1 by paymasters CVC Capital Partners et al, aiming to produce enormous capital liquidity but generally considered to be ripe for postponement.
5. Any mention of underlying potential difficulties in the Pirelli relationship with the (French based) FIA & its (French) President, when (French) Michelin are said by some who ought to know to be poking their noses around/being courted. For what it's worth the generally credible Worthwhile Whispers On The Wind gently infer that in such circumstances oft-times the French might be said to enjoy working mostly with the French.
6. A measurement on an internationally agreed scale of exactly how much all this smoke & cracked mirrors defers attention from 1 above?, with sub measurements of how much revenge is being extracted from Mercedes for potentially holding up the flotation and how much Pirelli are being jerked about just for shit & giggles.
7. An additional measurement, this time in decibels, of exactly how loud BCE is laughing, which is a reasonable assumption given his history of being five jumps ahead of the superpowers of global business, whom he clangs against each other like a childs toys…
Just insubstantial musings of a sleep deprived insomnia ravaged mind, for which I cannot be sued, or at least if I were I’ve got nothing to confiscate anyways. What do I know, I’m just floating in the little rock pool trying to make sense of the faces peering down at me from the Big World Out There.
