Yeah I had issues getting my bolts to line up, but its really not that bad. I figure after some use and lots of gas and bumping around, the tank will probably be easier to take off and put on on future maintenance. You do not want to paint the tank. Your paint will not last and look like crap. Didn't you buy the natural so you could see the gas? BTW, those little cutouts for the blinkers have turned out to be great places to rest your legs when you are just cruising and stretch your legs. It works out even better if you have a hard case on back to lean up against.
I just returned from the auto parts store with my 27mm socket. Breaker bar finally cracked off the nut . . . what was the torque setting they used? I'm guessing 345 Nm Ridiculous . . . Is this a "recommended setting" for chain tension --> LINK (last photo & description) It llooks good to me but . . . I'm just a mechanic wannabie.
I have installed 2-4.7 gallon tanks without any issues. It was very helpful to use the installation information from the WR/X Forum. When replacing the tank bolts, I lifted the tank and jiggled all the bolts in place, then tightened them. I love this tank! IMO-this makes the WR a real functional dual-sport bike!
I just tested it with ~1 2/3 gallons in it - no problems!!! Installed the skid plate, cleaned, lubed and adjusted the chain. Beautiful day - time to go riding! Thanks everyone! Woo hoo!
Mine is a 2008. There are plenty of stories of other years having problems, and the replacements seem to last no longer than installed originals. [ask Mark Sampson] My poorly made point is: don't let the pump keep you away from a deal on a 2008.
ok, guys, prepping for spring, i find my bat has got what my smart charger tells me is a sulfated cell. guess it's time for a new one, anyone got a good suggestions on where to get one for the right price?
The OEM is hard to beat, mine is still ticking along nicely in an '08. Lots of reports from owners about how durable it is. I'll replace mine with the OEM when it's finally time...
I just bought a yuasa recently from "LeatherUp.com", you might try them. It was for a ducati, though. Good price.
OEM is a Yuasa YTZ7S I'm sure Google will lead you to best pricing. Amazon is $86 http://www.amazon.com/Yuasa-Ytz7s-Sealed/dp/B002OQFPS0
Riding dirt roads up and around Hawk Mtn. (near Dawsonville, GA) much faster than I should've today - had tons of fun. The new tank performed flawlessly. The newly installed skidplate was heard clanging a few times (ha-ha). I'm starting to really love this motorcycle.
#325 in a swim suit and I love the crap out of my mostly way overloaded WR250X. To each their own I suppose... Oh, and even loaded with all my crap I can easily exceed any posted speed limit and sustain it... just sayin. Not that I would, mind you Of course I don't care what anyone else thinks. I just ride the crap out of it and let the nay sayers debate it while I am kicking up dust all over creation... like I like... YMMV and all that. Good talk.
@Mrfisherman, Isn't it about time for a second story addition on that thing? Otherwise where you gonna put the xmas gift overflow?
