F800gs Tank bag...got one you like? tell us about it!

I need a new one. The one I have been using for years flops from side to side and drives me crazy...but it has a pocket on the ass end that I leave open where I can pop the camera in and out very easy. I need a stiffee with a map pocket..not too big just need cellphone and small stuff up front..Ideas I have been looking around...but the camera pouch I dont find on tank bags...

I have an Explorer on my KLR and have been very pleased with it.
I have bought a Denali for my F800 - still waiting for the bike.
The bag is designed to fit the F800, and has a pocket on the "ass" end.
It has enought stiffness that it won't flop, but it's not "ridgid" like the BMW bag for the F800.

I got a peek at the BMW F800GS tankbags at my BMW dealership the other day. Forget it! A few nice feature, but ridiculously tall! For those of us that actually like being able to see our instrument gauges, I'll wait for something a little more contoured to the shape of the pseudo-tank. Plus, I've got a Garmin Zumo handlebar mounted, and I don't want anything that blocks the view of the GPS. Also, using the braille-method to put the key in the ignition didn't make much sense to me. What was BMW Motorrad thinking?

the denali was actually made to fit the old thumper f650. i've had one for several years now. i should check to see how it would fit on my new 800gs though.

NOT the BMW bag. Too tall, not waterproof, awkward fixings, unusable map pocket. Expensive too!

I am using the smaller one from Touratech and it's fantastic. It has stiff sides and is big enough for most tid bits but quite small in size. The lid was a bit floppy for my liking so I have cut a piece of thin plastic from a tupperware container in the shape of the lid and fitted it inside the lid pocket so you can't see it. The whole thing is now rigid.

Do you know if the Explorer is in fact too big for the 800GS? I still have the explorer from my old KLR, I don't want to sell it before trying to fit it to the F800GS.

I have the Famsa tank bag made for the F800GS. It is nicely made and stays put. It is also nice that it zips it off. I will post some pictures... I don't think it is as big as the BMW bag, but it seems pretty big to me as it is the first tank bag I have used and having the lower seat makes it seem taller.

Wolfman Denali.
Put mine on this weekend. Fits great and the key and power outlet are not covered.

That Famsa bag, and some of the others I've seen, all have those long straps. They look awful, and remind me of Borat's, um, swimwear.



Are there any out there that don't come with those fugly straps?

Wolfman Explorer Lite is also a good fit on the bike.

The Famsa tankbag appears to be the same as the KTM tankbag. The zip off is handy and quick. Putting in back on, getting the zipper started is a PITA.
When taking the seat off you have to release the long straps. If you let the strap flop down it may contact the exhaust system, and melt. Don't ask know I know.

FAMSA manufacture the KTM bag hence the very close similarity.

The zip on the 800GS is much easier as the zip starts further round on the base due to the cut out in the bag to accomodate the ignition switch.

You don't need to relase the straps on the 800GS bag as there are 2 quick release clips, which are attached to the frame via very short straps.

I'd really like to see some photographs of all of these tank bags from the top, being certain to show the access to the ignition and power outlet.

Any pics of the Denali mounted on the bike? That's my number one pick right now but I'd love to see a pic of it actually on the bike.

The Denali is quite a big bag, I'd say the Explorer Lite would be a better fit on the 800.
