F800GS under the seat

I just picked up my new to me F800GS. I looked under the seat and at the back there is a storage pan that looks like it should hold a tool kit or something. It was empty. There were some small tools in the bottom side of the seat itself. Can someone tell me if something was supposed to come with the bike that would fit into the space I mentioned? Thanks. By the way, the bike went great and I got better with the twitchy throttle as time went on. Still hard to stand on the pegs and hit bumps and not get into the herky jerkies with the throttle hand. oclv

In Germany they get a first aid kit in that space. Here we're supposed to bleed to death, I guess.

Nah Woodworks, you've just gotta pay! The kit is a BMW part, you can order it from your dealer. It probably costs $200 and comes with BMW-logo safety pins

I think he's asking about the area at the back under the seat, not in the seat. Where the alarm goes if you have one of those. So, to oclv454, if that's what you really meant, that area at the back above the fender is normally empty or mostly filled with the alarm module.

I keep sockets, ratchets, a torx set, allens, a 8" crescent, and combination wrenches there as well as some spare bolts, nuts and washers. I use a nylon travel organizer for most of the tools but the torx set and allens have their own holders so they just fit in around the travel bag.
You can fit a lot back there and it works well for me.

talking of the space where the the tire/pressure (658 tubeless) and alarm module sits, (where some riders store their bike manuals, I am keen to unplug the unusued lead that would plug into the alarm module (see attached pic) and leave it/affix it to one side.

It is located RIGHT in the middle of a usable space, and makes my handy toolkit akward to fit in.
Anyone who can give me theo go-ahead to safely unclip it, and affix it out of the way?

I was wondering just last night what that wire was for!

I use that larger rear space to hold tools, some bright orange survey tape (which I will use to tie to a tree if I ever have to abandon the bike and hide it in some shrubbery, which happened a lot on my 250, so I can find it again... don't ask how I learned this lesson), plus the usual crap (zip ties, duct tape, tiny container of differential oil, tiny LED torch, half an old dishcloth, etc.)

I don't carry the rider's manual under there, because I found the waterproofing is less than adequate. I scanned the important pages (wheel removal, airbox access, electrical resets) and store these images on my phone.

Thanks for the answers. I was talking about the space under the seat, not in the seat. I was making sure that I wasn't missing a took kit or something. I left the bike at a friends in Auburn last night because of ice over the passes. Went back and got it this afternoon. It is now home. Now the fun begins. oclv

That plug is for the optional alarm. When the alarm is not used the cap contains a terminating resistor for the CanBus. You may move both, but the electrical system will become unstable if you disconnect the cap and run the bike. The alarm also serves as a terminating resistor when this plug is used with the alarm.

Bottom line is move the plug and cap it if you want, but don't disconnect this cap.

I put that exact same adventure med kit in the medkit spot too. I've used the ultralight 3 for backpacking for years.

I'm trying to relocate the alarm plug and cap, but for the life of me I can't get the cap loose from its mounting tab. It seems like it should just slide off the mounting tab, but no matter what I try it just won't come loose. I'm afraid to use too much force and risk snapping the tab off. What's the trick to getting it loose?

Did you ever get that plug off? Mine is well attached and for the life of me I can't get it off. Arghhh.

I did end up snapping the clip where it is mounted and then just zip tying it in a rear corner - no harm, no foul. Now I have a nice clear space for storage and the connector is just as happy as it was in the middle of things.

Got it off finally. I think I broke the tip off the holding clip though...oh well.

Here is the inside of the cap.

Here is the bottom of the cap showing the retainer.
If you were to jam something under from the left (with respect to this pic)
it might slide right out.
Or if you could lift the end of the retainer from the wire end
...if there is room to actually get something under there....
it would probably slide right out.

And finally the inconvenient location of the stupid wires...

Now the alarm wires are tucked out of the way and all my tools fit under the seat.

You're not "missing" a toolkit in that space, but you can add this one from ADV Designs. It's not cheap, but so far has provided everything I've needed.

I was just looking at that plug this week as I was trying to fit my "always on the bike" tools into that space, and was thinking the same thing - the space would be really useful if that plug were moved. I'll try relocating it this weekend.

Between that space and the space in the seat pan, I have a folding 1/4" drive T handle w/ 8, 10, 12 and 13 sockets, Torx bits / sockets up to T55, hex bits, combo wrenches (8, 10, 12 and 13), needle-nose vice grips, tire gauge, tire plug kit (tubeless in the F658G), bike pump, zip ties and last but not least, a list off BMW dealers and roadside assistance card. Still need to add a few things (adjustable wrench, safety wire) but we're close.

FYI, many of the aftermarket seats (e.g., Sargent enduro-style), have additional storage compartments in the seat pan itself.
