Some where on this site.. some one who is making a center stand repair kit. Please email or pm me. I need to repair a center stand hole on a R100GS that I just purchased. TIA
I'd like to see a good solution for this. Step 1 is to replace the bushings bolted to the frame if they're worn (available at a BMW store). Step 2 is to repair the oval holes in the centerstand. RF - What are you referring to? I only see centerstands at Motobins ($190 US and nothing for a GS)? TA - Yep, some sort of welding at the holes and the feet would help in rejuvenating worn stands. WBB - The GS uses a different pivot in the frame and it doesn't fail like the pre-'81 frame lugs.
I purchased this on ebay good used straight 1992 GSPD para-lever frame and clear/open Texas tile. 63.00 shipping in the USA, lower 48. the center stand lugs are tweaked a bit from putting it up on the center stand fully loaded. Waiting to see the frame first but wirewerks has the fixit kit. It it work or this. I will take pics.
I have been waiting for this situation to arise. I am currently working on a simple fix, but need to know if your frame/tang hole will clean up at .500". If bigger, how much? Robert
I will know it a week when the frame is delivered. I could send the frame to you .. and you can use it as a mock up. I don't need it anytime soon.
I'll be interested to see how the center stand lugs are tweaked. It seems to me that the only way that the holes in the frame lugs could be ovalized is if the bolts that hold the center stand bushings were loose for a good bit of time. On my GS the bolt secures the bushing which sits in an milled recess in the lug on the frame. As long as that bolt is tight the hole shouldn't be ovalized. So maybe that's what happened (or, maybe I'm not picturing this correctly ). p.s. It also seems that if the bolt securing the bushing was loose that the center stand would quickly wear the shoulder on the bushing and fall off. I've had that shoulder wear and allow the center stand to fall off even though the bolt was tight (the hole in the center stand is pretty ovalized). Staying tuned.
I was just told this. I looked at my GS today and I can't figure how it could be tweaked. So, I will wait and look when it gets here.
This thread needs pictures. The center-stand "tangs" on my R75 frame are tweaked for sure, but I keep putting the repair off.
Just received the frame. Taken some pics and I figure out what is the problem. The holes are oval and the tang is bent. So, how do you fix this?
Oy. Straighten the lugs (big crescent wrench and a pipe?) and install the bolt, pivot bushing, nut and center stand? The hole may be rounded but I believe the countersink and the recess for the bushing in the lug will center that assembly even if the hole is ovalized. Keep that bolt tight and it should hold the bushing square(?). That's all I got.
Don't know if any of you guys are looking for the actual centerstand for the GSs but Motobins has them in the "Clearance Items": BMW PART NUMBER . BARGAIN @ ONLY £24.00 + VAT. That's $37.6728 US.
