I just did some weighing: Stock muffler is 8.8lbs Sito is 7.3 supertrapp is 2.4 but you'd also need a mid-pipe. so maybe you'd get another pound from that. I don't think you'd get much lighter than 4 pounds for the whole thing. That's about 5 pounds.
the Sito is crap, rust quickly and the foot peg mount needs reinforcing, but suspect Jenna won't want another Sito. Not sure what options are out there for a lighter muffler that doesn't come with a tub of Va$eline.. The Pro Duro muffler on mine is very nice quality, stainless steel, not sure of the weight though. Got lucky on Fleebay for about $250, was made to fit a R100GS. Don't think they are available anymore. The mid pipe is large. Probably have better luck buying a generic muffler and having a midpipe made. The was lots of talk about the stock muffler preforming the best. But who knows with the mukunis??
I'd be REALLY surprised if the ST's muffler were that light. The thing is pretty solid stainless steel. Either way ... I did a much of measuring and the midpipe from a Kawasaki ZX-10R is exactly the right side for the output of the G/S or GS collector, and the rear collector/crossover from an 85-87 R100/80 bike. Mated perfectly, and it now weighs ~5 pounds, where my old muffler weighed ~ 9. It's pretty quiet, no acceleration flat spots, and looks right.
Geeze....rough crowd. I am looking at options on the hanger front since Fred's muffler has ended up in a different place than mine will give my upswept cat outlet. Hoping the sport bike crowd can hook me up with another mounting location on the muffler. Maybe higher and towards the business end.
the intermediate pipe can be bent to what ever you want, mandrel bend would be best. Take the time and get stainless. aftermarket Dirt bike mufflers have a clamp that wraps around the can, better than trying to weld a tab on a thin can.
Not to weld aluminum I'm afriad, at least no one I know. Once I get it, I may just lop it off and invest in a wrap around clamp just as Richard is suggesting. Fred's is temporary....I think everything on the Dobber is temporary till he's happy.
The mid-pipe on this one is titanium. I have not idea how malleable titanium is (for bending purposes) .. Either way, I took it to mean the tab on the frame. The wrapped clamp that OLH speaks of is a much better idea for this one .. and depending on how close you get the pipe to a frame member, it can be quite secure. The purpose of this was to see how it sounded and how it could attach. Making it look 'acceptable' is down the road. Exactly. The worst thing you can do is make something permanent before you've had a chance to change your mind.
NOw that you mention it, I would happily weld a washer onto the subframe, to gain a mount. I feel comfortable enough with that, anyway I did do that, actually :lol but on the XT, for a tailight. Not on a BMW.
Thoughts??? On the muffler, not my senior portrait. Bonus points if you can tell whats mia in the pic besides self esteem. Not sure I like the sound....it's much deeper. Trying to figure out if the PO removed the baffle. <a href="http://s814.beta.photobucket.com/user/hardwaregrrl/media/938A9685-6EC3-48D2-83A9-B7ECEE6F64B6-25594-0000233CA438FD31_zpsa9db8cf1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="https://www.advrider.com/advrider-photobucket-images/images/h/hardwaregrrl_938A9685-6EC3-48D2-83A9-B7ECEE6F64B6-25594-0000233CA438FD31_zpsa9db8cf1.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 938A9685-6EC3-48D2-83A9-B7ECEE6F64B6-25594-0000233CA438FD31_zpsa9db8cf1.jpg"/></a>
Damn, you're good! I thought about that in the middle of working out....I stopped, dropped the bike of the lift and popped the wheel off. It's easier than with the stock muffler. Not exactly sure why, maybe the shape?
I was born with it. Parents thought I should get braces, couldn't have them so I got a retainer that over time, closed the gap. Turned 17, moved out, bought a motorcycle and lost the retainer. They couldn't get the gay out of me I guess.!
GSXR muffler ? I have one on my DR and they have a deep note. An FMF spark arrestor takes a bit of the bite out of the sound aswell. I would doubt if any baffles have been removed as you cant take the muffler apart and all the baffling is internal.
